    If you don’t yet meet the entry requirements for the UC course you’re aiming for, UC College’s diplomas –  also known as higher education diplomas – will provide you with an introduction to your chosen study area. They act as an alternative entry pathway for admission to UC undergraduate courses and prepare you for university study.

    By successfully completing a diploma, you can gain some credit points towards your undergraduate degree. Many diplomas will give you entry into the second year of your UC bachelor’s degree, giving you ‘advanced standing’ for the first year (24 credit points). It’s best to check the specific details of your preferred diploma so you know how much credit you’ll receive for your undergraduate degree on completion.

  • Focus of Study :
    If you’re an international student who hasn’t met the University of Canberra’s entry requirements for your preferred UC undergraduate degree, the International Foundation Studies program is an accredited pre-university Pathways program that can help you achieve your goal of a university education.

    The program has been designed to build your study capabilities and prepare you for university life, in which you’ll study units that introduce you to the knowledge and skills needed for a university education in Australia. Once you’ve successfully completed the International Foundation Studies program, you’ll be eligible for entry into the first year of a University of Canberra undergraduate degree. 


    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    The International Foundation Studies program is completed over three trimesters (12 months) full-time at UC’s Bruce campus. You’ll take 12 units, covering topics and study in areas such as English, mathematics, technology, arts and humanities, and society and legal studies.

    Completion of the International Foundation Studies program guarantees you direct entry into the first year of any University of Canberra undergraduate degree (except for the Bachelor of Midwifery).

    To gain direct admission to UC, you must successfully complete all 12 units and meet the Grade Point Average (GPA) required for academic entry into the bachelor’s degree of your choice at UC. You may also need to meet a series of inherent requirements to successfully complete your International Foundation Studies course.

  • To be eligible for the International Foundation Studies program, you’ll need to be an international student and to have completed the equivalent of year 11 in Australia to join the program. The academic entry requirements (PDF, 709KB) show you the equivalent requirements in other countries.
    You’ll also need to meet the English language requirements with an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall score of 5.5 (or equivalent) with no band less than 5.0 (or equivalent). The English Language Requirements table shows these equivalencies.
    *Note that Nursing Courses require an IELTS test result of 7.0 in addition to your Foundation results.
    *You must be at least 17 years of age to apply for this program.

    If English isn’t your first language and you’d like to improve your English speaking, writing and reading, we can help. UC College offers English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) at the University of Canberra College English Language Centre (UCCELC), conveniently located on our Bruce campus in Canberra. We’re one of Australia’s longest serving English language centres, having successfully supported English as a Second Language (ESL) students with our ELICOS programs since 1969.

    If you’re looking to improve your English listening, speaking, reading and writing in everyday life, our General English GE3 (Intermediate) English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) will help you gain the English skills and self-assurance you need.

    -improving your writing skills and accuracy
    -furthering your skills and confidence to use English outside the classroom.
    You’ll learn in small classes with one-on-one attention and support from our experienced and qualified ELICOS teachers. Your progress will be tracked with regular testing, and successful completion of the GE3 course can help you gain entry into our Academic English course

    If you’re keen to develop your academic literacy in preparation for university study in Australia, our Academic English (AE) courses can help.   • To study English on an ELICOS program with us, you need to be at least 17 years of age. If you’re under 18, please review our policies and procedures for younger students. You’ll also need to have your current English skills assessed so you’re placed into a course at an appropriate level.

    Certified tests for entry include:

    Pearson Test of English (PTE)
    Council of Adult Education (CAE)
    Pearson Versant Test (PVT).
