  • Victoria University of Wellington is a university in Wellington, New Zealand. It was established in 1897 by Act of Parliament, and was a constituent college of the University of New Zealand.
    The university is well known for its programs in law, the humanities, and some scientific disciplines, and offers a broad range of other courses. Entry to all courses at first year is open, and entry to second year in some programㄴ (law, criminology, creative writing, architecture, engineering) is restricted.
    Victoria had the highest average research grade in the New Zealand Government's Performance-Based Research Fund exercise in both 2012 and 2018, having been ranked 4th in 2006 and 3rd in 2003. Subject options include Calculus, Design and Society, Environmental Science, Health Studies, Introduction to Accounting, Macroeconomics, Management Studies, Marketing, Media Studies, Microeconomics, Physics, Psychology, Quantitative Methods, Statistics, and Tourism.

  • Focus of Study :
    The English for Academic Purposes (EAP) programme will develop your English language and academic skills for study at university. We offer 12-week courses in every trimester—this includes 10 weeks of teaching, orientation, and testing. There are two courses:
    EAP for undergraduate and postgraduate study,
    EAP for postgraduate study (advanced)
    If you successfully finish the EAP programme, the qualification you get is called the Certificate of Proficiency in English (CertEnglProf). Getting this certificate means you can then go on to further study at this University.

  • To enter the EAP programme for undergraduate and postgraduate study, you will need a pre-intermediate level of English or above, equivalent to at least IELTS 4.5 or TOEFL 32 or higher. To enter EAP for postgraduate study (advanced), you need the equivalent of Band 6.0 on IELTS, with a maximum of one skill below 6 and no skill below 5.5.

    Available to all students, homestay is a great way of experiencing New Zealand culture and practicing your English every day.

    You will have your own room with a bed, desk, heating and Wi-Fi, and meals including breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday, and breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekends and public or school holidays. Laundry is also included.

    Homestay Plus families can accommodate up to two students at a time, with a separate bathroom available – check with the UP Education Accommodation Team for availability

Surrounding Area

  • Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, sits near the North Island’s southernmost point on the Cook Strait. A compact city, it encompasses a waterfront promenade, sandy beaches, a working harbour and colourful timber houses on surrounding hills. From Lambton Quay, the iconic red Wellington Cable Car heads to the Wellington Botanic Gardens. Strong winds through the Cook Strait give it the nickname "Windy Wellington."
