Conditional admission

  • Yes, we offer Conditional Admissions for all Undergraduate Majors except Nursing. Nursing is not possible. 
    Graduate Conditional Admissions changes from Semester to semester, I recommend you contact Graduate Studies before applying.
    The International Education is part of Undergraduate Admissions-Enrollment Management and Graduate Admissions reports to Academic Affairs, not Undergraduate Admissions.

Course Information

  • Focus of Study :
    English as a Second Language,  5 levels.
    Levels 4, and 5, a student may enroll in 2 academic courses. For improvement of academic writing, ability to discuss various topics and learn US Study Skills.


    Curriculum : 
    CESL will have 5 levels: 
    The Novice, Intermediate I, and Intermediate II levels with four separate topics for the students to participate to improve their language skills:  Listening & Speaking; Reading & Discussion, Grammar & Writing and Vocabulary Development.  Lower level students should take these courses concurrently, although it might be possible for them to take the courses separately

    CESL Courses (levels 1-3):
    An ESL program, generally referred to as an Intensive English Program (IEP) in the U.S., is a language program that does not allow students to take credit-bearing university courses.  18 hours of contact time is the minimum requirement by the USCIS/ SEVP.
    The CESL program at Tennessee Tech University, will be 18 hours per week, each session will be 7-weeks.   Cost for 18 hours for 7-weeks will be: $2400
    Ala carte options (student may opt to take only one of the 4 parts of the curriculum at a separate cost).
    Grammar and Writing $700 for 4 hours per week for 7-weeks
    Listening and Speaking   $700 for 4 hours per week for 7-weeks
    Reading and Discussion $700 for 4 hours per week for 7-weeks
    Vocabulary Development $700 for 4 hours per week for 7-weeks

Surrounding Area

  • Cookeville, Tennessee, the site of Tennessee Technological University, is located on Interstate 40, Highway 70 North, and Highway 111. The city of Cookeville has a population of more than 26,000 (with the surrounding cities a total population of 100,000 people and is located on the eastern Highland Rim of Tennessee at an elevation of 1,140 feet (347 meters). The local public schools, civic clubs, and churches have a friendly and cooperative relationship with students, faculty, and staff. The surrounding area, enhanced by three major lakes, abounds in natural beauty and is served by several state parks.
    Campus. The campus consists of a tract of 235 acres (95 hectares) made attractive by shrubbery, native trees, and a system of driveways and walks; the buildings are arranged to make a compact and convenient university plan.

開始出國的初衷就只是希望能夠把語文能力提升,長時間的課程加上實際的生活體驗,讓我得到的不僅僅只是語文能力的提升,更多的是文化與實際生活體驗所帶來的影響。這段時間,除了上課之外,因為希望可以趁著聖誕假期時間遊覽整個國家,所以也自己著手開始規畫行程。從最開始的規劃、自己找相關的旅行社、預定旅行期間所有的住宿、前往的渡輪、回程的機票或是到當地報名參加活動,所有的過程都是自己獨立完成。之所以能夠自己一手完成這些,我想是因為在上課的過程中,學校老師給的鼓勵,所以在很多需要英語溝通的地方自己都變得相對於以往有自信,然而寄宿家庭也帶給我莫大的影響,他們教我用正向的態度去面對遇到的難題。我記憶中很深刻的事情是,有幾天我因為連續幾天的雨而顯得有些煩悶,然而家庭告訴我說:如果沒有這些雨,你來到這裡就看不到這麼美麗的風景。雖然只是很簡單的幾句話,影響卻很大。
