  • Since its establishment in 1983, The Language Company has been providing international students with a place to exchange culture and learn new language. TLC not only focuses on students' academic growth but it also emphasizes the coming together of international students and the growth of their ethnic and cultural values. Accredited by ACCET, TLC offers several challenging courses that promise students with significantly noticeable growth in their English skills. Students, in the past, have been waived TOEFL requirements after completing courses at TLC. As such, TLC is making continuous effort to give as much benefit to international students as possible.

  • University of Central Oklahoma is a 4-year public school serving approximately 16,000 students. With its student to faculty ratio at 25 to 1, UCO offer bachelors and masters program to students. Located in one of the most serene and safe communities of Oklahoma, OCU provides an easy access to nearby restaurant and shops as well as the metropolitan  Oklahoma City via public transportation. Its English requirements include a TOEFL score of 500 or a TOEFL score of 460 along with 12 weeks of Intensive English Course from TLC.

Conditional admission

  • TLC supports students' transfer to other universities via conditional admission under the assumption that students pay all applicable fess and submit required documents before the official process begins. Conditional admission applications cannot go over two per student. Required documents include completed and signed TLC APS Screening/Release Form, Institution admission application, financial documents, immunization records, recommendation letters and much more. Please refer back the the website in order to get a set list of required documents.

Course Information

  • Focusof Study : 
    TheIntensive Language Program aims to achieve maximum outcome in terms ofstudents' English proficiency in order to prepare them for further academicendeavors at American colleges and universities. However, the course is alsodesigned for students who find joy in learning new language.

    Benefit, Goal of this course : 
    Upontheir arrival, students will be given a placement test by the school in orderto make an accurate examination on each student's English proficiency and placethem in an appropriate level of class. TLC also provides students with anoptional sixth block lesson at no extra cost.

    Curriculum : 
    The Intensive English Program evolves around a 4-weeksession during which 25 hours of classroom lessons are given per week. At theend of each session, students receive a Final Grade Report from theirinstructors, making its possible for students to see their whereabouts andoutcomes. Equal instruction is given at nine different levels, from beginner toadvanced. Beginners (Level 1-3) learn to communicate in every day situations,understand simple dialogues, read starting level passages and express theirthoughts in a basic manner of writing. Intermediates (Level 4-6) learn toexpress themselves through writing with less errors than beginners, incorporategrammatical structure and rules in writing, develop academic vocabulary andunderstand longer reading passages. Advanced students (Level 7-9) learn tofreely discuss issues on specific topics, participate in debates, writeprofessional paper that incorporates the discussions and analyze other reportswritten by authorities andprofessionals.

Accommodation

  • TLC offers is its unique homestay program. With experienced, welcoming host families, students will find the greatest opportunity to enhance their English skills and experience the local culture. The host family will provide ride to school each day as well as all three meals and a private bedroom. TLC Edmond also has the university housing option. Students can choose to live in University of Central Oklahoma's dormitory which is close to the TLC center. All rooms are double occupancy. This option comes with 19 cafeteria meals per week. The last option is off-campus housing at the International House for students who prefer more independence and privacy. Located on the edge of campus, the International House has furnished private rooms. Students are expected to self-serve themselves in the common kitchenette area since meals will not be prepared. There is a $150 deposit and a $25 maintenance fee. TLC also offers the A&B Apartment, which is only 3 minutes away from TLC-Edmond. The apartment comes in either double or single rooms with bathroom and kitchen. Students are expected to cover all bills including electricity, internet, water and cable television.

Surrounding Area

  • With a population of 75,000, Edmond is a suburban town of Oklahoma. Located 25 minutes away from Oklahoma City, Edmond also boasts beautiful parks, sports facilities, golf courses and many more entertainment sites for its residents. With Oklahoma's efficient transportation service, students can explore Oklahoma City's Cowboy Hall of Fame, the stockyards, the Murah Bomb Site and take trips to Texas.

Facilities

  • TLC Edmond's facilities include large student lounge with stereo and television. Microwaves and refrigerators are also prepared for students as well as coffee and hot water or tea. TLC building is located in the Thatcher Hall next to UCO's international office. It is close to UCO's food court, post office, bank and book store. Student will be issued a UCO student I.D. and thus be granted all access to UCO's facilities as well.

National Mix

  • TLC has worked with many international students, majority of which come from Asia. Many students are from Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Other students come from Latin American and Europe as well.
