    POLY Languages Institute, Inc., founded in 1970, opened its first center in Pasadena, CA and later added two additional centers in Los Angeles, CA and Irvine, CA. Each center is about 5,000 square feet in size and has about 100 students enrolled per term. At least 7 classrooms and a computer lab are designated to serve our students’ learning needs.

  • Focus of Study and Benefits:
    As its mission, POLY is committed to providing excellent English as a Second Language programs to non-native speakers who are serious about achieving the language proficiency needed to reach their educational and career goals, or simply for their own self improvement.POLY recognize that our students come from diverse cultures and academic backgrounds and that every student has different strengths and weaknesses, focuses and needs. Instructors therefore structures the program into distinct course types followed by test preparation courses.

    Curriculum : 
     POLY's ESL Semi-Intensive program is designed for students who wish to accelerate their English skills with some time to spare in experiencing American culture. The program consists of six ESL levels and one TOEFL Prep course. Semi-Intensive program offers only the core components of language learning including Listening/Speaking and Reading and Writing. There's average of 10 to 15 students in each class.

    POLY's ESL Intensive Plus program is designed for students who wish to accelerate their English skills. The program consists of six ESL levels and one TOEFL Prep course. The program is POLY's best offer since it provides core language components with additional challenging learning concepts like grammar, pronounciation or idioms. The combination and intensity of the program will enrich student's language learning. There's average of 10 to 15 students in each class.

Accommodation

  • POLY offers student residence and homestay accommodation options. Students may request the Accommodation Arrangement Service on the Application Form; payment is due 20 days prior to their planned move-in date so that appropriate accommodations can be arranged. Students should receive the confirmation letter about 10 days prior to your scheduled move-in date. Student Residence Student Residences are independently owned and operated. However, Student Residences are arranged exclusively for POLY students, and they are available for all centers. Meals are not included, but students have full access to the kitchen. The students may book only up to 120 days at a time, if available. The Student Residences are easily accessible by bus or within walking distance. The rooms are furnished with a bed and a desk. The facilities also include T.V., internet access, refrigerator, and laundry machines (washer and dryer). The students must provide their own bed set (pillow, cover, and blanket) and all other living necessities. Homestay Homestay accommodations with English-speaking host families are available at all POLY centers. Homestay arrangements generally include two meals per day (breakfast and dinner), a private room with a bed, a desk, and more depending on the host family. Homestays are selected so that they are located within 30 minutes by public transportation from the POLY center. POLY staff will introduce up to three (3) host families.

  • POLY Irvine Center is located only 38 miles from LA, the biggest metropolitan city in the Southern California. University nearby includes UC Irvine, one of the biggest public research schools in the State of California. With the student residence located within walking distance from Newport Bay, students can enjoy the beauty of nature while their stay at POLY Irvine.

A: 感謝您的詢問，為您說明如下: POLY提供學生宿舍和寄宿家庭的住宿選擇。學生可以在申請表上申請住宿安排服務；需要在到達學校前的 20天完成付款，以便安排適當的住宿。學生應在大約10天之前收到確認函，關於課程的搬入日期。學生公寓及學生宿舍是獨立並經營。然而，學生宿舍將為POLY的學生專門安排，將可以使用所有的中心。但膳食不包括在內，，但學生可使用廚房。學校宿舍也提供洗衣機與烘衣機。要注意的是，學校只接受120天以上的住宿。學生宿舍可以乘坐公交車或步行輕鬆抵達。酒店的客房都配有一張床和一張桌子。設施還包括電視，互聯網接入/網路連接，冰箱和洗衣機（洗衣機和烘乾機）。學生必須自備床套（枕頭，蓋，和橡皮布）和其他生活必需品。POLY將提供講英語的寄宿家庭所有中心。寄宿安排一般包括每天兩餐（早餐和晚餐），一個私人房間設有一張床，一張桌子，更多取決於不同的寄宿家庭。波里語言學校會提供學生三個寄宿家庭做選擇，選擇提供將會在距離學校30分鐘交通距離之內的範圍。

석사과정 시작 전 어학연수 관련
Q. 안녕하세요, 저는 2021년 가을학기에 USC 석사과정에 등록할 예정이며, 이미 2020년 10월에 위 석사과정으로 F1 비자를 받았으며, 코로나로 인해 한 학기 연기를 한 상태입니다. 저는 가능하면 석사과정 시작 전에 1~2개월이라도 얼바인의 폴리지점에서 어학연수를 하고 싶은데요. 이와 관련해서, i) 미국 입국 전에도 석사로 받은 비자의 세비스 기록을 어학원으로 트랜스퍼하여 동일한 세비스 번호로 I-20를 받을 수 있는지, ii) 어학원으로부터 비자에 기재된 같은 세비스 넘버로 I-20를 받으면 별도 비자 변경 없이도(비자와 I-20의 세비스 넘버만 같으면, 기관이 달라도 상관없이) 입국할 수 있는지 궁금합니다. 아니면, 다른 방법이 있으면 알려주시면 감사드리겠습니다.

A. 이미 USC 석사로 F1 비자발급이 되셨으면 그 학교 시작일로 정확히 30일이내부터 입국이 가능합니다. 이때 입국을 하셔서 2-3주정도 들으시는게 좋을거 같아요.

원래 USC 입학허가서를 받고 그다음 얼바인 폴리에서 입학허가서를 받으신 후 폴리로 F1을 신청하고 입국 후 USC로 트랜스퍼하는게 정식 절차인데 이미 발급이 되셨으니  입국이 가능합니다. 이때 입국을 하셔서 2-3주정도 들으시는게 좋을거 같으세요.

不同於我們對於上課的刻板肅穆氛圍，課堂中取而代之的是如同歡樂的宴會氣氛，每位同學皆踴躍的表達自己的看法，同時也尊重他人的不同見地，若討論到敏感議題時例如政治，如何有風度地接受別人的看法，並且機智給予回應，是我在這個月當中所學到的寶貴經驗，不僅止於課堂討論，同學之間相處也是不吝給予指點，並當下指出你的錯誤迅速解決問題，避免問題隨著時間擴大與複雜化，這也是令我印象最深刻的。如何有技巧的不讓對方感到不舒服與保持組內的和諧，在這短短的一個月當中，我確實學到不少。
課程主要是跟口語有關，畢竟我們在學校所學的英文能力能藉此發揮，才能習慣成自然，我是這樣想的。課堂第一天，老師與班上學生討論有興趣的議題與所期待能在這門課中獲得什麼，選擇自己所感興趣的，然後盡情參與其中。

有趣的是，一個班級就如同文化的大熔爐，觀點與文化的不同常會互相腦力激盪而後產生獨特的見解，比如說，某次上課主題為社群網站，討論過程中，可以了解到不同國情文化使用社群網絡的現象與特色。
