  • The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), also known as UNC Greensboro, is a public university in Greensboro,North Carolina, United States and is a constituent institution of the University of North Carolina system. However, UNCG, like all members of the UNC system, is a stand alone university and awards its own degrees. UNCG is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, masters, specialist and doctoral degrees. The university offers more than 100 undergraduate, 61 master's and 26 doctoral programs. The university's academic schools and programs include the College of Arts & Sciences, the Joseph M. Bryan School of Business & Economics, the School of Education, the School of Health and Human Sciences, the Joint School of Nanoscience & Nanoengineering (one of the first such schools in the nation), the School of Music, Theatre & Dance (affectionately known as the School of Performing Arts), the School of Nursing, Continual Learning, Graduate School, Warren Ashby Residential College and Lloyd International Honors College. The university is also home to the nationally renowned Weatherspoon Art Museum, which features one of the largest and most impressive collections of modern American art in the country. Conditional admission

  • Some students have strong academic backgrounds and training but have not had enough preparation in English, as measured by the TOEFL test.  These students are given conditional admission to.  They attend INTERLINK to improve their English.  When they complete INTERLINK's English program, they are fully admitted.  No TOEFL score is required in this instance.

Course Information

  • Focus of Study :
    This program is an Intensive English language training for university-bound students as well as those who need to improve their English for personal and professional reasons in a student-centered, nurturing environment. Its Academic Focus is primarily on English for Academic Purposes, English for Law (VU), andEnglish for Business (VU).  

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    -Academically qualified, serious students-Experienced, full-time faculty with MA or PhD degrees in ESL, Linguistics or related fields-Concurrent university courses for qualified students-Student-centered, communicative curriculum-Computer-based learning materials-TOEFL waiver for qualified students at selected universities-Access to university facilities & activities as well as use of university computers and internet-Assistance with conditional admission for qualified students-Assistance with housing and host families-Academic advising and university placement assistance-Opportunities for students to develop critical and analytical thinking skills and become independent learners.-Instruction in English for Business, English for Law, and English for Specific Purposes(ESP) as needed.-Integrated formal and experiential learning. -A student-centered curriculum emphasizing content-based learning-A holistic, pedagogically sound, approach to instruction in English for academic purposes in supportive nurturing environments. 

    Curriculum :
    The well-defined, five-level curriculum is specifically designed for university-bound students. Therefore, it emphasizes the communicative use of English, academic skills, and cultural orientation. The instructors of IEP help students pass through the various stages of adjustment and emotional growth in their new environment and promote mutual understanding and positive relationships on campus and in the community. At Colorado School of Mines, upper level students may receive instruction in English for Science and Technology (EST) and at Valparaiso University, law students wishing to receive LLM degrees may enroll in the English for Law (EL) program. Each level has 8 to 12 students.

Accommodation

  • On-campus housing is available to all applicants who enter the program in January or August and plan to study at INTERLINK for an entire semester (two terms). On-campus housing is usually only available at UNCG in summer (until 2012). Students arriving in October or March can live on campus if space is available. Summer students can live on campus for four, eight, or twelve weeks. Applicants must make advance reservations for on-campus housing. We also arrange housing for students with carefully-selected American families. Students are encouraged to apply at least 12 weeks in advance to secure their preferred type of housing. Homestays are available at all campuses except UNCG.

  • UNCG is located in Greensboro, North Carolina’s third-largest city. It’s about halfway between Atlanta and Washington, D.C. The Blue Ridge Mountains are just a 2-hour drive to the west; the Atlantic Ocean is 3.5 hours to the east. The population of Greensboro is 270,000. The Piedmont Triad area (including Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point) is home to 1.6 million people. There are 10 other four-year colleges and universities in the Piedmont Triad. There is so much to discover in Greensboro—museums, Broadway and local theatre, movies, galleries, coffee bars, concerts in the park, opera, ballet, and the symphony. Students also enjoy the nightlife in downtown Greensboro, where there are dozens of restaurants and nightclubs. The city’s outstanding parks and recreation system puts the “green” in Greensboro with more than 170 parks, gardens, and facilities. So there are plenty of options - tennis, golf, swimming, biking, volleyball, or simply enjoying the miles of greenways. Greensboro is also home to the largest water park in the Carolinas, Wet ’n Wild Emerald Pointe. For those who prefer winter sports, the Greensboro Ice House is open year-round for skating and hockey. Greensboro Coliseum, just a mile from campus, is the home court for UNCG’s men’s basketball team and hosts a variety of sporting events and concerts throughout the year. Baseball fans enjoy watching Greensboro Grasshoppers play in their downtown stadium, and soccer fans cheer for the Carolina Dynamo.

學校周遭環境很好之外學校和教室都很乾淨,設施也很棒。學校樓下就是cafeteria所以午餐有多種選擇,不用擔心沒東西可以吃。除了樓下的餐廳,學校裡的學生用餐地方很大,不僅有多台微波爐,還有冰箱跟販賣機,完全不用擔心上課途中會肚子餓。課程方面選擇很多,雖然我沒有選選修課,但我的室友有選,聽她說了之後覺得選修課還滿厲害的。至於staff方面,他們都很願意回答我們不懂的地方,下課活動也都是他們帶我們出去玩的。師資方面也很優,不僅學到很多文法還提升口說能力,並且糾正之前一直犯的各種錯誤,尤其的特色就是讓美國居民能夠直接與我們作交流,這也是我最喜歡的課程之一,因為北卡羅萊納州格林斯伯勒大學讓我更了解北卡羅萊納州,也學了很多當地美國人會用的會話用法。

卡羅萊納真的是一個很棒的城市,雖然小小的但在這就像一個小地球,民族多樣化之外景點也都超有特色。天氣雖然很常濃霧、強風永遠存在,但絕對是一個夏天避暑的最佳選擇。一開始覺得homeless真的很多,覺得他們很可怕,但其實不去招惹他們、不理他們,大致上是很安全的。特別推薦只有自己一個人遊學的學生一定要選擇舊金山,這裡的交通很方便,大眾運輸方便到什麼地方都可以去,絕對不用擔心交通的問題。至於晚上,這裡要晚上九點天才會黑,所以一天很長不用擔心玩不完,如果要天黑才回家,只要結伴其實都還滿安全的。
