Took me some time to get used to at time difference, and personally I think ELS dormitory is bit expensive but it’s all right if you get a good roommate.  I met one Switzerland guy and 2 Taiwanese. Us 4 people used to hang out a lot and made other friends and also had parties later. Once you get into ELS centre, you get a placement test like TOEIC and a speaking test. Since I was not very skilled in speaking, I was placed in 105 out of 101~112. Make sure to prepare for the exam before you go, as
the lower classes study curriculum is way too easy except for speaking. Lesson  starts from 8:30 till 12:20, 1:20~3:50. Depending on your timetable, you might get your recess at 1:20. If you only get the morning classes, it is called half intensive, all the classes refer to intensive classes. I recommend you to go only for morning classes as the afternoon class was not very good
in terms of information contained within the class. It is almost like it is for the kid swho wants to go to college through ELS courses.

Although there is TOEFL class, I think Korea is the best to learn TOEFL except for speaking. I guess the good thing about the afternoon class is talking in English. Every weekends, there is extracurricular activities which is done outside the class, and also there are prizes for people who have done well at the end of the month. Also parties are available as there is
Halloween coming up. ELS Seattle students are very nice, but there are quite a lot of homeless people. They don’t really do anything to you directly but you can just ignore them. There is first Starbucks so you can travel around
near it. Downtown is not too msall, not too big. The fact you can go to College through ELS is very attractive. There are seminars where people from Colleges come and explain this and that. And from lesson 110, you don’t really do language courses
but you set a topic, and debate based on it. Although I didn’t take 110, I assume that it is because you need to utilize your language more in that level. Seattle’s weather is very nice ( didn’t even rain that much when I was there), and people are nice as well. I strongly recommend you to go there.

ELS Seattle

  ELS Seattle

The one thing that I felt about ELS is that, you can widen your perspectives and improve your speaking by talking to other people from other countries. You are forced to speak English, and you will automatically learn their culture.
Also, there are extracurricular activities at the end of each week like bowling, making costume with pumpkin for Halloween or having a Thanksgiving dinner together. So not only English, you can learn America’s culture.
I lived with two Chinese people and both of them were young. They were 18 and 19 and they were studying at ELS to get into University in America. ELS’s classes are composed from 101 to 112. If you finish 109, you can get into most of College. I got into 107 in the first month. To be honest it was learning the same thing as I did in Korea but it was helpful since I didn’t do too well in Korea anyways. And also, there is LTC course which you can study yourself with computer and it helps you a lot if you actually study with it.
Since I went there with my brother, with his roommates and my roommates, we used to hang out a lot together. We moved out of dormitory later as it was pretty expensive. It is pretty difficult to look for a house if you are staying only for a short time (3 months for us), but we were lucky since my brother’s roommates were going to University and contracted for 2 years and we got into that house as roommates.

- Dormitory uses one toilet for with 3 people which I didn’t really like but for the people who get lonely, dorm is pretty good. Lunch is to be bought somewhere, but there are Korean restaurants as well as Hamburger, Pizza, Sushi etc near the dorm so it is pretty convenient.
Personally, it was a very satisfying 4 months for me. Made a lot of good friends, and I miss some of them eve now. And if you study really hard, you will get what you worked for. I learned a lot about
America as well and if you do have chance I recommend you to go.

ELS Seattle

  ELS Seattle
