Location

Accommodation

  • The school offers two types of accommodation depending on the student needs/wants All rooms whether in our residence or in a family stay are inspected regularly so your stay in Cadiz is as comfortable as possible.

    Residence
The residence is located in Calle Montañes on the corner with Palillero Square. Thus, it located in the middle of the lively downtown area, surrounded by stores, movie theater, and tapas bars. Your accommodation will be 5 minutes away from the school (bus line) or a 20-minute walk through the Cadiz boardwalk, and ten minutes walk to the famous Caleta beach. The residence is on a three story recently renovated neoclassic building. A Banco Santander Office occupies the first floor so our tenants only work through office hours. The second and third floor are for the exclusive use of our students. The second and third floor have 8 rooms each, distributed in single and some double rooms, a family room, kitchen, washing machine and laundry area. All rooms have natural light, window and Wi-Fi Access. Common areas are maintained on a weekly basis by school staff. We also have a live-in staff member who is there to aid/help you in anything you might require.

    Family Stay
All our host families have worked with us for many years. We use a referral system so that new families are added only when referred by another host-family.All host-families complete a questionnaire with their of personal information (age, family size, location, etc.) We use that information to match our prospective students. All host-families live near the school and help the student on a day-to-day basis to make life much simpler while studying abroad. Our Housing Department uses a ranking system where past and present students rank the family before departing so we know exactly our families meet the highest standards.

Surrounding Area

  • Cadiz, capital city of the province of the same name, stands on a 10.58 Km peninsula and has a population of approximately 157,000 inhabitants. It is almost entirely surrounded by water, except for a narrow strip of land which connects the city to another island, San Fernando. Until the construction of the Carranza Bridge in 1969, this was the only land nexus to the rest of Europe. Cadiz is strategically situated between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean; this idyllic location played a determinant role in its history. The province enjoys 138 Km of white sandy beaches, dunes and transparent waters, while the capital has three beaches which joined make up almost 10 Km. Its rich history is present in historic buildings, magnificent parks and charming squares. The city is also the administrative centre of the province and has the feel of a capital city without losing its small town touch. Cadiz has an excellent climate: warm and temperate. The temperatures range between 14º and 20º in winter and slightly above 22º in summertime. Cadiz is proud to be one of the few cities in the world where inhabitants and visitors enjoy more than 300 days of sunshine per year.

Activities

  • Cadiz offers some of the most beautiful and varied sights in Spain. Visitors readily lose themselves in its villages and cities, where local people are always friendly and willing to talk. The city of Cadiz will surprise you with its rich cultural and historical heritage, and its ample offer of leisure activities to realize. One cannot miss its numerous baroque and neoclassic churches, specially: the new and old cathedrals. The new cathedral built between 1722 and 1853 and its museum displays some of the finest Spanish baroque, rococo and neoclassic architecture. The convent of Santo Domingo and the San Felipe Neri church played an important role in the history of the city and the country respectively, and, in the latter one can see, amongst others, a picture of the Immaculate Conception painted by the famous Spanish painter Murillo. Close to these, in the neoclassical Plaza Mina one can find the Museum of Cadiz with its collection of Phoenician and Roman archaeological findings, and its painting by artists of the size of Goya, Murillo, Zurbaran and Rubens.Other places to visit include the Tavira Tower, with its dark chamber where, by means of a set of mirrors and lenses, one can see the entire city of Cadiz, the castles of San Sebastian and Santa Catalina, the Alameda Apodaca, the Falla theatre, archives and libraries, from a bird’s eye view.Rivalling its vast cultural offer are the leisure activities that take place whether within its fortified walls or in Puertatierra. The February Carnival in Cadiz is one of the oldest and best known carnivals that take place in Spain. This carnival constitutes an international tourist attraction, and, people from all over come to enjoy and participate in its costumes and popular and ingenious songs (a word of caution: even other Spaniards have a hard time understanding the comical lyrics). Fourty days after carnival ends, in March or April, Holy Week takes place. This catholic celebration is a dramatic contrast to the pagan carnival. During Holy Week, thousands of Gaditanos parade rich baroque images of the Virgin and Jesus through its streets, accompanied by chamber music and the smell of flowers and frankincense. The carnation petal rain with which the Virgin of La Palma is received is specially striking. In May the city transforms, once again, to receive the Motorcycle Grand Prix which is held in the Jerez Circuit.

Getting to the school from the airport

  • There are two international airports located close to Cadiz: Jerez ( Airport Code XRY) and Seville (Airport Code SVQ). Both airports have several daily connecting flights to the rest of Spain and Europe. Following you will find a table detailing the most convenient ways to get to Cadiz. If you need any help simply contact us and we can aid you in the best way to arrive to Cadiz. Remember that you can request a school door-to-door pickup service from Seville and Jerez.

Arriving at Jerez (XRY) Airport or Seville (SVQ) Airport

There is information below on how to get from the airport to your accommodation you can either organize a transfer with us or make your own way to your accommodation.

Option 1: Airport transfers arrange by us

We are very happy to arrange for you to be collected at your arrival airport, and to be taken directly to your accommodation. This is a simple and trouble-free way to start to your course.

Your driver will meet you as soon as you have passed through Customs. The driver will be holding up a sign that reads “spanish in Cadiz“

All you need to do is to request this service and to make sure that you tell us your arrival details (date, time, flight number, arrival airport and departure airport). Please contact us for transfer rates.

If for any reason you cannot find your driver, follow the steps below:

Stay at the arrivals gate and wait there.Listen to the public address system for any messages addressed to you.If you have not been contacted by the driver after 15 minutes, telephone the following numbers, in this order for assistance: +34 628 830 170 OR +34 667 347 825 The driver will wait for you for 45 minutes after your flight arrival time.

If you realize you are likely to be delayed for longer than this - for example because your flight is delayed, or you have problems in getting through customs, immigration, baggage control, etc - you should telephone one of the numbers above to inform the school.

Option 2: Making your own way

Although we are very happy to arrange an airport pickup it is not essential. Taxis are easy to get at Jerez or Seville airport and actually cost less than a pickup service (IF COMBINING TAXI & TRAIN IN THE WHOLE EQUATION).

We do not recommend taking a taxi from the airports all the way to Cadiz since they are some distance and are expensive, but it is perfectly easy to take a combination of train and taxi.
