Savitribai Phule Pune University, one of the premier universities in India, is positioned in the North-western part of Pune city. It occupies an area of about 411 acres. It was established on 10th February, 1949 under the Poona University Act. The university houses 46 academic departments. It is popularly known as the 'Oxford of the East'. It has about 307 recognized research institutes and 612 affiliated colleges offering graduate and under-graduate courses.

The specific objective of this course is to develop the communication skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening, with emphasis on grammar and vocabulary.
Curriculum :
Each ELICIS programme is divided into three levels, i.e. Levels I, II & III,. At the beginning of each course, a test is conducted to determine the English proficiency level of the student. Following the test and results, students are divided into groups.
The five levels are run both simultaneously with other courses or independently. The admission to this course is subject to fulfillment of the conditions of eligibility.
Classroom Hour :
The duration of each course is sixteen weeks, four hours a day, six days a week.

The IC maintains two International Hostels, one for men and one for women, conveniently located within the campus. The International Boys Hostel (ISH) has 96 rooms, while the International Transit House (ITH) has 42 rooms and six 1BHK flats that provide accommodation for girls. IC also maintains the International Faculty Guest House comprising of six fully furnished flats, exclusively catering to the international exchange guests. The International Centre is responsible for the maintenance of both the hostels along with providing security to the foreign students in the hostel.

Reaching Pune
Pune city can be reached from any other city by means of either air, railway or road. The nearest city by air from Pune is Mumbai. It takes half an hour to reach Pune from Mumbai. Distance from Pune airport to the city is approximately 10 Km's / 6 miles.
Reaching Savitribai Phule Pune University from the Airport
Prepaid taxi service is available from Airport to reach the University. Regular taxi and rickshaw service is also available from the airport. Other means of reaching the University is by the bus service run by the ex-army men.
Traveling in Pune
From Pune railway station rickshaw and bus service is available. In Pune city one can hire rickshaw or travel by buses run by the Pune Municipal Transport. If you are new to Pune city the most convenient way of traveling is by auto rickshaw which are metered.
