English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is an intensive four-level American language program that focuses on language skills and college preparation. The program is divided into four levels from beginner to college prep. Graduation from the program qualifies students for admission to VIU's academic programs without a TOEFL score. Classmates from over 50 countries study in a small classroom setting of 10 to 15 students. Non-intensive ESL classes as well as TOEFL preparation courses are offered in the evenings.

VIU recommends Just like Home, a local organization that specializes in homestay arrangements. They are designed to make our students feel at home when they have to be away from home.
