Language Systems International College of English, an accredited Language school in Los Angeles, was founded in 1987 with the purpose of providing English as a Second Language (ESL) and test preparation, such as TOEFL iBT®, to international students. We provide high-quality language programs designed to build students’ skills and self-confidence when communicating in English in either academic or professional situations. We provide language instruction that helps international students function successfully in an English-speaking environment, introduces study habits common to those expected at American institutions of higher learning, and assists in the development of critical abilities to think, read, write, listen, and communicate effectively in English.
Focus of Study : All ESL Levels at Language Systems International contain 3 different classes focusing on two primary components each: Grammar & Writing, Reading & Vocabulary, and Listening & Speaking.
Benefit, Goal of this course : Classes are taught by three different teachers, so you can experience different accents and teaching styles. There are 7 levels with a duration of 3 months (12 weeks) per level. You will be placed at the most suitable level for you after taking our Placement Test and an oral assessment on orientation day. With our special College Agreements and Mutual Recognition Program (MRP), after you complete levels 5, 6 or 7, you will be able to attend certain colleges and universities without a TOEFL® score.
Curriculum :
Listening & Speaking
Focuses on the conversation, pronunciation, and listening skills needed to become fluent in spoken English. Students progress from basic conversation skills in the lower levels to meaningful use of newly acquired language functions and vocabulary in the higher levels.
Reading & Vocabulary
Focuses on essential reading skills, like scanning, skimming, and comprehension. Vocabulary use is also stressed in the reading passages and in verbal communication. Students progress from basic reading and vocabulary skills to more academic and complex skills at the higher levels.
Grammar & Writing
Focuses on grammar for spoken English at the beginning and intermediate levels and academic writing in the upper intermediate and advanced levels. Students start with basic survival skills at lower levels and progressively build on familiar grammatical structures by formulating more sophisticated sentences at higher levels to facilitate communication beyond the practical level.
Classroom Hour :
Language Systems offers three class sessions. You can study in the morning, afternoon or evening. You can also improve your English skills by studying in two sessions at the same time and reach your goals more quickly. The South Bay Campus is located in Torrance, Los Angeles County. Torrance consistently ranks among the safest cities in Los Angeles County and has beaches on the Santa Monica Bay. It is also neighboring Redondo Beach, which offers oceanfront dining and entertainment at its pier, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach, which hosts the Beach Open Volleyball tournament and the International Surf Festival. The center is a short distance from the StubHub Center (home to the MLS teams Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA). For shopping, dining and entertainment, one of the largest shopping malls in the United States, Del Amo Fashion Center are just across the street from the center. Also, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) and El Camino College are close to the center.
Facilities
The main campus of Language Systems International is located in Placentia, California (known as the “Orange County Campus”). There are two additional branch campuses in Southern California, all in Los Angeles County. Each of the four campuses offers a unique geographic locale, giving students numerous opportunities to participate in the social and cultural activities that California has to offer. In addition, each campus offers modern facilities and equipment, such as computer labs and free Wi-Fi internet connections. The students are provided everything necessary for success, such as information regarding colleges and universities, as well as instructors available for academic counseling and advice. Students have access to kitchen and dining facilities, vending machines, as well as numerous nearby eating establishments, public transportation and parking.
Activity
Because learning involves much more than classroom study, we regularly plan outside activities, both educational and fun. Through activities such as cultural and historical excursions, hiking, skiing etc., students have the opportunity to learn about American culture and lifestyles.
Getting to the school from the airport
A designated Sweet Home California staff member will meet students at the airport upon their arrival and take them to either their homestay or dormitory location. The SHCA staff will also provide students with a brief orientation session upon their arrival for students to become familiar with basic contacts and emergency information. The staff will also explain how to get to school on the first day of class. If students need particular assistance in anything, our staff will be happy to help.
