The General English Course are scheduled in the morning and the afternoon with 20 lessons per week in total. General English lessons focus on helping you communicate effectively and confidently in everyday. The wide-ranging syllabus will improve your listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.

 

The general English course is offered year-round with sessions beginning every Monday. The program is the most comprehensive and popular course at school and enables each student’s all round skills to develop in the morning, with a particular focus on areas to improve or special interests in the afternoon. If you would like to take this course, at least your age should be 19.

 

The program is offered at 8 levels of instruction; Beginner is the most elementary level while Level Advanced is the most advanced. Upon their arrival, are required to take a placement test to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. At the end of the session, students are evaluated for advancement to the next level based upon their academic improvement. This program assists students at any ability level in developing English language skills, general communication skills, and building confidence when speaking. Instruction focuses on grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening. Each week, academic objectives are planned in advance and discussed with the students.

You have decided to come to Vancouver to improve your English skills and we want to ensure that your time in Vancouver is useful, happy and fulfilling.We have personally inspected every home that we recommend as a homestay. Based upon your student application, we will carefully match you with a family that we believe will make your stay in Vancouver enjoyable and memorable.We will email you a profile of your host family and, if possible, provide you with an email address so that you can correspond with your new Canadian family before coming to Vancouver. However, before arriving, there are a few things you should note to make your stay successful.

Your host family will

▪ Provide a clean, private room and three meals a day ▪ Provide a study desk and good lamp ▪ Show you how to use the bus and/or SkyTrain ▪ Orient you to your new neighborhood (ie: banks, library, recreation centers, etc.) ▪ Provide you with a key to the home ▪ Allow use of the telephone, living room, laundry and other household appliances ▪ Allow use of the TV and computer ( usage rules may apply in some homes) ▪ Encourage and help you with your English ▪ Treat you with kindness and respect ▪ Help you to learn about Vancouver and Canadian culture

You will

▪ Be considerate of family members and respect household rules▪ Be responsible for your personal sundries (ie: toothpaste, shampoo, etc.) ▪ Inform the family if you will not be home for dinner ▪ Use the telephone for local calls only ▪ Inform the family if you will be away overnight ▪ Pay all homestay fees directly to the host family when payment is due ▪ Give 2 weeks notice to the family if you are changing your living arrangements ▪ Make an effort to participate in family activities ▪ Invite guests to the home only with the host family's permission ▪ Ensure there are no phone calls after 10 PM ▪ Have adequate medical insurance while in Canada
