  • CNA is Newfoundland and Labrador’s (NL) public college – one of the largest post-secondary educational and skills training centres in Atlantic Canada, with a history dating back more than 55 years. Today, College of the North Atlantic has 17 campus locations, throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and offers full and part-time offerings for approximately 7,000 students each year in:CNA continues to have the lowest tuition fees of any post-secondary institution in Atlantic Canada. We offer an impressive world-class, nationally accredited range of programming that meets the highest demands of industry; transferability opportunities that promote continuing education at home and abroad; research and development leadership in community and regional innovation; and, precedent-setting international partnerships.


Course Information

  • 22 Hours Per Week For 12 Weeks
    These ESL courses focus on academic language use and include topics related to college level courses and programs. The courses are designed for newcomers who wish to enrol in college level education and improve their access to careers and the local labour market. These courses are open to Newcomers with a language proficiency of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 - 10, CEFR B1 – C1 score on the CNA-ESL placement test, or equivalent on a recognized test of English language proficiency. Free placement testing is available through CNA.

    The goals of the program at to:
    Improve student’s English language skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking for academic purposes.
    Improve English language skills to enhance opportunities for work or education.

Surrounding Area

  • Newfoundland and Labrador form the most easterly province of Canada. On Newfoundland island, the Norse archaeological site L'Anse aux Meadows is the reputed settlement of Viking explorer Leif Erikson. Gros Morne National Park, on the Gulf of St Lawrence, has cliffs, waterfalls and glacial fjords.
