Why This School?

  • - Tamwood's English school in Whistler is located in the center of North America's number one holiday resort destination, and is only two hours by car from Vancouver. The Whistler English school is open year round for general English programs taught by qualified and caring teachers. From December to May, the school also offers adult students English classes combined with professionally taught ski and snowboard instruction and the Level 1 Ski/Snowboard Instructor certification courses.

  • Founded in 1992, Tamwood International College is a privately owned and operated company that operates a number of carefully designed and managed English language schools across Canada under the name Tamwood Language Centres. Tamwood Language Centres offers English language courses for adults ages 17-80. All of the language programs that Tamwood Language Centres offers have been designed to combine the most modern learning techniques with interesting and stimulating subject matter thus making learning English at Tamwood both easy and enjoyable.

Conditional admission

  • Tamwood University Pathway Program consists of 2 levels:

    Pre-University Pathway Program (Pre-UPP)

    12 weeks - 32 lessons / week - successful graduates can achieve an IELTS score of 6.0 or higher and can progress to UPP or directly into specific university/college programs.

    Entry Requirement: high intermediate English (IELTS 5-5.5) 1

    University Pathway Program

    12 weeks - 32 lessons/week - successful graduates achieve an IELTS 6.5 or higher and enter a university or college program.

    Entry Requirement: Low advanced English (IELTS 5.5-6) 2

    University / College Partners

    Take this pre-university program to meet the English skills condition for admission to a post secondary institution offering:

    Bachelor DegreesCollege Diplomas and CertificatesMBA and Masters Degrees and Post Graduate Diplomas

    Tamwood has two types of agreements with University and College partners*.

    University/College accepts Tamwood’s Pre-UPP or UPP graduates (NO IELTS or TOEFL requirement) AND issues Conditional Acceptance Letters for Tamwood students.University/College issues Conditional Acceptance letters before Pre-UPP/UPP students have the required TOEFL or IELTS. This gives Tamwood students the advantage of knowing they have a space reserved in their chosen program. Students must submit IELTS or TOEFL score to gain admission to their chosen academic program.

    The Standard English Course in Whistler makes use of the integrated approach to language learning. Classes cover all of the essential language skills. Students study Essential English Skills for 3 hours and can spend ample time exploring North America's premiere ski, snowboard and mountain bike resort!

  • Tamwood Student Residence
    Make good friends fast by living with other Tamwood students! Our residence is a huge house in a very nice Whistler neighbourhood. Students travel between the residence and school by bus (20 min) or bike.
    Residence Features: 6 spacious bedroom, 3 bathrooms, large kitchen, dining area, living room plus a study den, , two large outdoor decks, free WiFi and a large storage space for sports gear. Each bedroom is shared and has 3 or 4 beds. The students are responsible for cooking and cleaning for themselves. There is a Residence Manager living on site. The Student Residence is recommended for students 19 years and older.

    Homestay
    Homestay students are placed with carefully selected Canadian families that offer a secure and friendly environment. Students are provided with a private bedroom, bathroom facilities, meals and contact with English speaking Canadians every day. As Whistler is such a popular ski resort with more hotels than homes, the number of available host families in Whistler is limited so you should book quick!

學校有一個開放公共空間,通常是中午吃飯、看電影和頒獎等活動舉辦時的同學聚集
我很喜歡這些公共空間,趁著短短十分鐘的下課時間,除了在教室內跟同班同學閒聊外,也可在走廊這些公共空間認識新朋友.
一樓是老師休息室與櫃檯詢問處,有任何問題或活動資訊都可從此得知,或純粹想練習英文聊天也可以~
二樓有固定時間開放的電腦教室可搜尋資料與影印,一樓也有一台電腦與電話可供學生緊急使用學校給予的日常資源很充足,其實不用太擔心

學校老師其實沒有統一的教學方式,取決於各個老師的教學習慣 ,有的老師會讓每個學生都有平均發問與作答的機會,學生勇於多講一點就多點練習機會.然後像我遇到老師會玩文法或單字遊戲,藉由比賽競爭,讓班上學生各個摩拳擦掌增添學習語言的樂趣。
