About the  International Center for English (TICE)

  • The International center for English will give students the English language skills necessary for academic and social success. Students will quickly master English through expert classroom instruction and through exciting programs and activities offered by TICE. As a TICE student, one will have free and unlimited access to all University services and facilities with the paid enrollment. This includes recreational facilities, student health facilities, the library, e-mail, computer access, student organizations and clubs, and more. There's no need to submit any test scores such as TOEFL or IELTS to start our academic programs at ASU if students successfully complete our ESL program. Arkansas State University is located in the heart of the Mississippi delta, rich in culture and history, alive with the arts and entertainment and regionally convenient to larger cities such as Memphis, St. Louis, Nashville, and Little Rock. Most importantly, it's a safe, welcoming home for international students, complete with Southern hospitality.

  • Arkansas State University (also known as ASU, ASTATE or "stAte") is a public university and is the flagship campus of theArkansas State University System, the state's second largest college system and second largest university by enrollment. It is located atop 800 acres (3.2 km2) on Crowley's Ridge at Jonesboro, Arkansas, USA. The university marked its centennial year in 2009. ASU's 13,000 students come from all over the United States and more than 58 countries. And what students can study is as diverse as the student body; ASU offer more than 156 fields of study. Faculty members are international too; they work alongside undergraduate students in ASU's outstanding research facilities and are committed to their roles as educators.

Course Information

  • Focus of Study : 
    ASU's intensive english program will give students English language skills through classroom teaching and cultural activities. Daily study, guided practice, and practical real life experiences will allow students to develop English language proficiency needed to succeed and thrive in an American college or university.
     
    Benefit, Goal of this course : 
    -Computer-based English language lab dedicated to ESL students.
    -Conversation partners, tutoring, and special ESL student organizations.
    -Extra-curricular activities for students.
    -Free and unlimited access to all ASU facilities and services.
    -Participation in academic classes while enrolled in ESL (requires approval in advance).
    -On campus housing facilities with American roommates.
     
    Curriculum : 
    Intensive English program is a 6 level, comprehensive program: Zero, Beginner, & Advanced. Classes meet 5 days per week, minimum 4 hours per day with no more than 15 students in each class and student/teacher ratio of 11:1.   Interactive and dynamic courses that prepare students for the academic needs of college includes listening skills, note-taking skills, giving presentations, etc. Student-centered instruction through group work, pair work, and whole class discussion helps students to learn English in a more dynamic setting.

Q、授業について教えて下さい。



A、はい。

まずレベルは初級から上級まで６つに分かれており、週5日、一日4時間の授業があります。
授業内でグループワーク、ベアワーク、クラス全体でのディスカッション、リスニングの練習やプレゼンテーションなども行います。
学生数は基本的に15人以下で構成されています。
また、英会話パートナー、個人指導、ESL Student Organizations (ESL学生組織)、課外活動にも参加できます。

ESLの学生専門の英語コンピューターラボを利用できます。

학생 10명 당 선생님 한 명 꼴인데, 학생 한 명 한 명 정말 꼼꼼히 챙겨주고 질문을 받아줍니다. 대학 동아리 활동도 했고 학교내 시설도 모두 이용해서 공부하기엔 최적이었습니다. 기숙사에서 살았는데, 시설도 괜찮았고 통학 거리가 짧아서 편했습니다.

学生10人につき先生一人の割合であるが、学生一人一人は本当に入念に満足な質問を受けています。大学サークル活動もし学校内の施設もすべて利用し勉強には最適でした。寮に住んでいましたが、施設も大丈夫たし、通学が近くて楽でした。

雖然一名老師會帶十名學生，真的仔細地一個一個照顧每位學生，也接受學生提出的問題。一邊讀書參加學校社團活動的同時，也能使用校園內的設施真是再好不過了。住在宿舍裡的設施很好，而且上下學的時間也很短所以很方便。

大学時代に3ヶ月だけ交換留学でこの学校に留学した経験があり、その時の印象がとても良かったので、

今度は大学を卒業してきちんと英語を学びに来ました。
私が英語を学びに来ようと思った一番の理由が、以前の留学の時に英語力が足りないせいで自分のいいたいことなどがうまく伝えられず、
もどかしい思いをしたからでした。
もちろんそれでもすごく楽しかったですが、もっと自分の意思を伝えることが出来るようになったらどれだけ良いだろうと思い、留学を決めました。

学校自体はアーカンソー州ジョーンズボロの、まあまあな田舎にありますが、慣れてくるととても居心地がよく、
なによりも空気がとても綺麗で、勉強するにはもってこいの環境だと思います。
都会だといろいろ誘惑が多いので、、、笑

クラスの先生達はみんなフレンドリーで、親身になって教えてくれるひとばかりです。
勉強以外にもいろいろ相談に乗ってくれます。

日本人は少なめでした。
でもそれが私にとっては勉強する上でむしろ好都合だったと思います。
一日中母国語を使わずに英語だけを使って生活することによって、英語力が格段に伸びていったと思います。

環境の面でも学業の面でも、アーカンソー大学すごくおすすめです。
