The University of Tennessee language school offers all levels of direct English programs for international students, local experts and local residents. Remote programs such as cross-sea friends are also available, and they help you learn English naturally in your daily life with the goal of improving your English skills to adapt to American life. Also, workshops are held every Saturday to contribute to the development of students' skills.

The University of Tennessee (University of Tennessee, Knoxville; UT Knoxville; UTK; or UT) is a public land-grant research university in Knoxville, Tennessee. The University of Tennessee is the only university in the nation to have three presidential papers editing projects. The university holds collections of the papers of all three U.S. presidents from Tennessee—Andrew Jackson, James K. Polk, and Andrew Johnson. Nine of its alumni have been selected as Rhodes Scholars and one alumnus, James M. Buchanan, received the 1986 Nobel Prize in Economics. UT is one of the oldest public universities in the United States and the oldest secular institution west of the Eastern Continental Divide.

You will learn how to write researched essays, give oral presentations, work with classmates to get the most out of your reading, understand the rapid spoken English of classroom teachers, and speak more fluently.

Elective classes vary from term to term. Recent offerings have included American movies, conversation, and TOEFL preparation. Daily assignments are given for all classes.

Students are tested frequently and grades are scaled using a traditional A, B, C, F system. A grade of NP (No Promotion) is given to students who have not improved enough to go on to the next level of study. Students receive a Certificate of Completion at an end-of-term.

Our 8-week intensive program classes meet 5 days a week, 4-5 hours per day, at six levels of proficiency from beginning to pre-university. Enrichment classes include film, American culture, TOEFL preparation, and other topics.

Tennessee is a landlocked state in the U.S. South. Its capital, centrally located Nashville, is the heart of the country-music scene, with the long-running Grand Ole Opry, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and a legendary stretch of honky-tonks and dance halls. Memphis, in the far southwest, is the home of Elvis Presley’s Graceland, rock-and-roll pioneering Sun Studio and the blues clubs of Beale Street.

The Geyer Hall offers housing for 378 students and features pod style and apartment style. Pods have several double rooms and small shared bathrooms located throughout the hallways.

Volunteer hall
Volunteer Hall has two, three or four bedroom apartments and is fully furnished with a kitchen. There are men and women from second grade to graduate school students in this hall.


Laurel Hall
The large lobby on each floor helps meet friends and hold large gatherings, and Laurel Hall is within walking distance of Law College and Strong Hall. Laurel Residence Hall provides an independent lifestyle for advanced department students while maintaining a campus atmosphere.

Community-style hall:
Magnolia Hall, Robinson Hall, Geyer Hall, and Hess Hall
It is a semi-suit-style hall with two living options from the first to third floors. The fourth floor is equipped with community-style two-person living facilities.

Reese Hall
Reese Hall is located in the presidential complex named after the former UT president. The leasing hall accommodates 514 students.

North Carrick Hall
North Carrick Hall is the northern building of the largest mansion in the complex with 494 people. This traditional suite-style room has a double and semi-private bathroom.

South Carrick Hall
There are 530 female students living in South Carrick adjacent to North Carrick. This traditional suite-style room has a double and semi-private bathroom.

Brown Hall
The first Residence Hall in nearly 40 years, Fred D. Brown Jr. Residence Hall, is a 250,000-square-foot facility designed specifically for students today. Brown Hall is a semi-suit-style hall with 4 sharing and 2 sharing life options.

Clement Hall
The Clement Hall consists of 698 spaces on 8 floors. The suite consists of two double rooms connected to a semi-private bathroom. The original name was Cumberland Hall, which was renamed in honor of former Governor Frank G. Clement.
