Course Information

  • Focus of study:
    Weekly General English classes will provide different courses to develop your speaking fluency and improved grammar at the respective levels through free conversation practice and guided course literature. The communicative approach is integrated with task based learning.

    Goal of this course:
    At the end of the course, participants at the different levels are able to converse with greater confidence and ability, communicate orally with greater success, understand and improve pronunciation issues, recognize and use different conversational devices and use functional language in a variety of contexts.

    Curriculum:
    The Weekly General English module encompasses the study of listening, speaking, and reading skills, as well as grammar and vocabulary. It aims to place participants at an adequate proficiency threshold to begin receiving instruction in more complex language skills (i.e. Social, Business and Academic English skills).

    Speaking
    A large part of the classes will focus on communicative teaching. Participants will be expected to participate in conversations with a partner or as part of a group. Participants will learn a variety of functional language to assist them with everyday conversation. Speaking will also focus on pronunciation, fluency and accuracy.

    Listening
    Listening skills will be developed through the use of authentic material from CDs and the internet. Participants will be able to practise listening to different accents, develop and adopt different techniques to aid comprehension.

    Reading
    Reading skills development will focus on improving reading speed, understanding larger texts on a variety of subjects, identifying different styles of text.

    Vocabulary
    A variety of functional language will be learnt to help and support participants with everyday conversations and situations.

    Pronunciation
    Participants will develop their pronunciation of individual sounds, intonation, rhythm and stress.

Course information

  • Focus of Study :
    All Master of Laws (LLM) programmes will enable students to gain practical insights as well as theoretical knowledge in specialised areas of law. Upon completion of one of the Master of Law (LLM) programmes, students will be able to successfully tackle complex legal issues arising from practical scenarios, provide competent legal advice to fictional clients and critically evaluate the principles of law covered by the programme.

    The University of Law recognises that a number of Master of Laws (LLM) programme students will be from non-common law jurisdictions. Therefore, a comprehensive induction programme will form part of the first two weeks of study, covering the key principles of the common law system. This will be made available to all students. The full induction programme will be available both face to face and online.

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    In particular, the aims are as follows:

    - To develop a systematic understanding of the law and practice on the part of learners, and a critical awareness of current problems and/or new insights, at the forefront of the areas, studied.
    - To enhance learners’ intellectual, transferable and interpersonal skills as well as developing postgraduate skills such as the demonstration of initiative and autonomy in planning and implementing tasks at a professional level.
    - To provide learners with a programme of study that enhances their prospects of legally related professional, commercial, business, or academic employment.
    - To provide flexibility in delivery modes to increase learner access to the LLM.

    Curriculum :

    The programme provides opportunities for students to achieve the following learning outcomes:

    A. Knowledge and understanding

    Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of:

    A1. a substantial range of practical and theoretical legal principles and processes relevant to the areas of law studied and in particular in the area of the specialism of the MA award.

    A2. the law of England and Wales and, where appropriate, European and or international law.

    A3. current research and practical scholarship in relation to specific areas of law both domestically and internationally, as appropriate.

    A4. current problems and insights at the forefront of the discipline.

    A5. legal research methods including primary and secondary sources, nationally and internationally, as appropriate.

    B. Subject specific intellectual and research skills

    Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be able to:

    B1. interpret complex legal issues systematically, making sound judgements and communicating findings clearly and accurately in English using appropriate legal terminology.

    B2. analyse practical legal problems logically and provide a range of solutions to them informed by critical evaluation of their merits.

    B3. analyse primary legal source materials such as cases and statutes and apply the law derived from this data to the solution of practical legal problems.

    B4. critically evaluate and synthesise doctrinal arguments surrounding particular areas of law and construct a coherent argument from relevant data.

    B5. process a large quantity of complex data and apply that information to the resolution of individual problems.

    C. General Transferable Skills, Professional Skills and Attributes

    Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be able to:

    C1. explain how established techniques of research and enquiry are used to create and interpret knowledge in law, and apply these skills in order to make personal and reasoned judgements in the areas of law studied, especially in relation to the award-linked subject area.

    C2. appraise relevant ethical and policy issues which underpin the areas of law studied.

    - Students should possess a minimum 2nd class honours degree in any subject.
    - There is a Compulsory Two Week Induction required for all students unless they can evidence the successful completion of either:
    - an LLB or equivalent; or
    - a minimum of 3 legal modules, worth at least 80 QCF credits that must include: English Legal System; Contract Law; and Law of Tort

Surrounding Area

  • Singapore is made up of a main island with 63 surrounding islets. The main island has a total land area of 710.3 square km. Singapore is closely situated to Malaysia and Indonesia, and has beautiful sceneries. There are 5.08 million people in Singapore, out of which 3.77 million are citizens and permanent residents. Climate is warm and humid all year around. Students can easily observe local cultures at their most expressive and captivating moments during festivals, elaborate worship ceremonies, and sumptuous feasts. The two campuses are both located in Singapore’s financial capital (Tanjong Parga) and near MRT station. Many amenities and facilities nearby.

最開始出國的初衷就只是希望能夠把語文能力提升,長時間的課程加上實際的生活體驗,讓我得到的不僅僅只是語文能力的提升,更多的是文化與實際生活體驗所帶來的影響。在新加坡的這段時間,除了上課之外,因為希望可以遊覽整個國家,所以也自己著手開始規畫行程。從最開始的規劃、自己找相關的資訊、報名參加活動,所有的過程都是自己獨立完成。之所以能夠自己一手完成這些,我想是因為在新加坡上課的過程中,學校老師給的鼓勵,所以在很多需要英語溝通的地方自己都變得相對於以往有自信,然而寄宿家庭也帶給我莫大的影響,他們教我用正向的態度去面對遇到的難題。我記憶中很深刻的事情是,有幾天我因為新加坡連續幾天的大太陽而顯得有些煩悶,然而家庭告訴我說:如果沒有這些太陽,你來到這裡就看不到這麼美麗的風景。雖然只是很簡單的幾句話,影響卻很大。在還沒有出發之前,我想我和很多人都一樣,認為出國是一件算還蠻了不起的事情,好像出去一趟就會有所成就,一切都會很順利,但事實上並非如此,不是所有的一切都像想像中美好,生活上還是會有許多大大小小的問題需要自己想辦法解決,藉由這次的留學也讓我成長了許多~~^^
