  • Dublin International Foundation College (DIFC) was set up in 1999 to deliver specialised foundation courses preparing international students for entrance into partner universities in Ireland and the UK. Both undergraduate and postgraduate level programmes are taught and students who successfully complete these are placed in a wide-variety of Higher Education courses.

    Over the past few years, DIFC has placed over 1,000 students onto graduate and postgraduate courses in partner universities and colleges in Ireland and the UK.

    Due to our reputation for running quality foundation courses as a pathway to university entrance, DIFC has been appointed by NCUK as its exclusive delivery centre in Ireland for NCUK courses – the NCUK International Foundation Year (IFY) and NCUK Pre-Masters Preparation.

    All students who successfully pass the International Foundation Year or Pre-Masters programme with DIFC will achieve a University place in their chosen field of study.   • Focus of Study :

    Prepares you for 1st year entry to undergraduate degree courses.


    Benefit, Goal of this course :

    The International Foundation Year is recognised as an equivalent standard to the A– Levels for University admission purposes, however, the programme is delivered over just 7-9 months, rather than 2 years for A-Levels.

    Similar to the A-Levels, you will study three academic modules relevant to your study plan, in addition to English for Academic Purposes.


    Curriculum :

    - English for Academic Purposes which covers reading, writing, listening and speaking
    - Three academic subject modules related to your Foundation stream
    - ICT to teach you how to use different software for preparing assignments and presentations, as well as using the Internet, e-mail and virtual learning environment software to support your learning.
    - Study Skills to help you to work effectively in groups, present ideas, manage your time, conduct research, take lecture notes, organise the content of essays and understand how to evaluate your own work.
    - Pastoral Care comprising of a weekly group tutorial to help you prepare for your university applications.

  • Focus of Study : 

    Getting ready for Masters degree

    Benefit, Goal of this course :

    The NCUK Pre-Masters (Graduate Diploma) is a modular course consisting of a core element and a subject theme. The core element includes modules in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Learning Skills including Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) and Research Methodology that includes project planning and the submission of a 5,000 word dissertation. Students following the longer duration programmes also undertake an individual research project and complete a substantial dissertation.

    ‘Management and Science’ is currently offered as the subject theme at DIFC. This is, however, used as a vehicle for practicing the academic study skills and is relevant for students wishing to study a wide variety of subjects at postgraduate level.

    Curriculum :

    - English for Academic Purposes [Unit 1] (10 hrs p/wk)
    - Orientation to Western Study + ICT (2 hrs p/wk)
    - Subject Module (1) (6 hrs p/wk)
    - English for Academic Purposes [Unit 2] (10 hrs p/wk)

  • Finding suitable student accommodation can be difficult and there are a range of options available from on-campus, student accommodation apartments and homestay.

Surrounding Area

  • It is a European capital with a village atmosphere, whose calmness and serenity allow for serious study, while at the same time offering world-class amenities, such as a modern international airport.

    As you would expect of a cosmopolitan capital city which is home to major multi-national companies, there is an array of restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from. Alongside local and national restaurants, there are many eateries offering a range of international cuisine from Europe, Asia and elsewhere, making it easy for international students to find familiar treats from their home countries.

  • Sports At DIFC

    DIFC students are able to benefit from the many sports facilities and clubs offered on campus by our partners Griffith College Dublin. You can join one of the 8 sports clubs or use the facilities of the Sports Centre.

    Fitness Room

    The campus has a Fitness Room that is open to all students. Located in the B Block, the room contains various cardiovascular equipment including elliptical cross trainers, exercise bikes, treadmills and weight machines.

    Adjacent to the Fitness Room there are male and female changing rooms which are equipped with hot showers and secure lockers for gym gear.

    The Fitness Room is open from 8am to 9:30pm every weekday and from 9am to 5pm at weekends

    DIFC Social Activities

    Social activities are organised by DIFC once a month and include visits to famous tourist spots in Dublin and seasonal activities such as ice skating in Smithfield or the Street Performance Festival in Merrion Square.

Getting to the school from the airport

  • For students arriving at Dublin International Airport and studying in our Dublin centre, we offer an airport pick-up service from the airport to your accommodation, at an additional charge. If you want to make use of this service you will need to provide the Student Services Team with your full flight details in advance of your arrival date. Full details of how to do this will be provided with your confirmation documents. If you are under 18 when you arrive and travelling by yourself, the airport pick-up service is compulsory, unless your parents can provide evidence to our Admissions Office that a suitable arrangement has been made for your collection at the airport in Ireland.

    Students studying in our Cork centre, can catch an Express Bus from Dublin Airport down to Cork City, which takes approximately 2.5 hours.
