About the  Schloss Neubeuern

  • These pages are intended to introduce you to a very special boarding school in the beautiful Alpine foothills of Upper Bavaria. Neubeuern Castle derives its uniqueness from its current students and employees, but also from the many thousands of old students who are still affectionately connected to “their” Neubeuern and support the school and students in a variety of ways. Neubeuern Castle is a small, manageable school community in which up to 210 students live and learn. The majority of these are boarding school students, but there are also day students from the surrounding area. On the following pages we would like to give you a first impression of Neubeuern Castle. Of course, even the most beautiful pictures and writings cannot be a substitute for your own experience: We would therefore like to invite you to get a personal impression of us on site. We welcome visitors at any time.

Course information

  • Focus of Study :
Our society is changing more than ever. It demands new perspectives and increased performance from the individual. We don't want to respond to these global changes with new, short-lived concepts. We are required to take a stand, define our identity and positioning and provide orientation. This requires common goals and values. The principles of “Schloss Neubeuern” – developed by a working group composed of equal partners on behalf of the Board of Trustees – are guidelines that give our actions the goal and direction. They apply internally and externally. Our guidelines represent a balance between preserving traditional Neubeur values and necessary innovation.

Benefit, Goal of this course :
    ENTREPRENEURSHIP IN THE LOWER SCHOOL
We want our youngest to understand how the world works. We have therefore launched a program with the Berlin RockitBiz Foundation as a partner, in which our students in grades 5 and 7 get to know the opportunities and possibilities of entrepreneurship. They are also given the tools and important characteristics that they can benefit from later. They learn the basics of the business world, entrepreneurial thinking and acting, money management and implementing their own ideas in a team, but also how to motivate others in their class to “do” something. In both classes, this playful “lesson in entrepreneurship” is an integral part of the weekly timetable.

    PADUCATION IN THE LOWER SCHOOL
In order to include our students in our media education concept in the lower grades and to enrich lessons with exciting didactic innovations, personalized Apple iPad tablets with subject-specific apps (application programs) are available to students in grades 5-8 which teachers can use as needed. There are great opportunities here, especially for the Lower School RockItBiz program. Since the students also use their iPads to learn vocabulary (Phase6), watch learning videos (sofatutor) and do homework (e.g. keynote presentations), the devices are also used outside of the classroom environment, for example in the room, on weekends and during holidays. Since the iPads are also pen-capable, we have of course also equipped our students with Apple Pencils so that they can work with Microsoft OneNote right from the start.

SEMINARS IN THE UPPER LEVEL - ORIENTATION TOWARDS UNIVERSITIES AND THE WORLD OF WORK
A special feature of the Bavarian upper school are the two seminars that students take over three phases of training. Through extracurricular contacts, the seminars offer insights into academic and professional practice and enable comprehensive study and career orientation.

    Curriculum :
Neubeuern Castle has a scientific, technological and economic profile. Neubeuern Castle is a boarding and all-day school. As a state-recognized private high school, we closely follow the state curriculum and take the central Bavarian Abitur examination independently at our school. The current grades 9 - 12 take their Abitur after grade 12 (G8), grades 5 - 8 after grade 13 (G9). In the G9 there is the possibility of shortening the training time. The foreign language sequence is English from grade 5, French or Latin from grade 6. Alternatively, it is possible to take the second foreign language (French or Latin) at the end of grade 9 and Spanish as a late-beginning, new foreign language in grades 10-12 choose. Physics, chemistry and biology as independent subjects are taught on the basis of the subject “Nature and Technology” from grade 8 onwards. In the economics profile, the subjects of economics and law, as well as business information technology, are taught in class 8 instead of chemistry.

Facilities

  • There are 10 boarding school groups, 6 of which are housed in the castle, 2 in the Trüperhaus and 2 in the Kronehaus.
The east and connecting wings of the castle, as well as the east wing of the Kronehaus, are traditionally reserved for girls. The groups are separated into boys and girls and usually contain at least 3-4 grades. Between 12 and 20 boys or girls live together in a group. The mentors live - often with their families - in the same wing as their students and are there for them 24 hours a day. They are also the most important contact for parents and are always up to date on the academic and personal development of their pupils.

    ACCOMMODATION
There are a total of 65 student rooms in the castle, 15 in the Trüperhaus and 18 in the Kronehaus. Some rooms in the castle and in the Trüperhaus have sinks, and two even have their own shower or toilet. In the new Kronehaus (completion September 2013), two student rooms each share a comfortable bathroom. Depending on the current composition of the student body, this results in the distribution of students. The following applies in the 2019/2020 school year:
    - Classes 5 - 8: triple rooms and a few double rooms
    - Grades 9 - 10: triple and double rooms
    - Class 10: Double room
    - Q 11: Double rooms and some single rooms
    - Q 12: Single room.
In each group there is at least one spacious shared bathroom, which in all cases has individual showers. There is also a group room in each group, usually with a kitchen corner, which also has a flat screen TV. This is where students in a group meet to chat, play, watch TV or cook. At the end of each school year, students have the opportunity to choose a group, room and room partner for the coming school year. Particularly sought-after rooms are allocated based on seniority and merit (see also privilege model).

    GROUP EVENINGS AND GROUP TRIPS
Group evenings take place at irregular intervals where the groups do something with their mentors. This can be a game evening or a discussion in the group room, cooking or baking together, but also a meal in the Japanese restaurant in Rosenheim or a barbecue trip to Lake Neubeur. At the beginning of the school year there is a multi-day boarding school trip to get to know each other intensively for the first time, and towards the end of the school year a joint group weekend offers the appropriate conclusion.

    LAUNDRY
In each group there is at least one washing machine and dryer, there are laundry racks, irons and ironing boards. Many of our students therefore take care of their own laundry. Alternatively, there is of course also a laundry service in the village that picks up and returns laundry twice a week.

    CAFE EDEN
In our cozy and modern designed student café EDEN in the east wing of the castle, our students meet all day long during free periods and breaks and every evening after the Silentium and on the weekends for relaxed conversation over small snacks and cold and hot drinks. Managed by a dedicated team of students, the EDEN also offers films and football broadcasts on the big screen in the adjacent event room and occasionally even small concerts by students or teachers on the small stage - if someone dares to do so.

    BAR
The boarding school's own disco is also a must - every Saturday on boarding school weekends, our small but professionally furnished "bar" opens its doors to our dance-loving students. Here too, management is the responsibility of a team of committed students.

Activity

  • On the boarding school weekends, in addition to the activities in the castle, there are several activities taking place, of which the students usually have to choose at least one. Activities and activities are selected and booked in the login area of our website, so parents always have an overview of their children's program. We strive for a balanced mix of culture and entertainment, which we often combine within one company. Some examples of typical weekend activities:

    - Museum visits in Munich in combination with shopping (Pinakothek, German Museum, Kunsthalle etc.)
    - Castle tour Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein
    - Theater, concert and opera visits in Munich and Salzburg
    - Pop concerts and musicals in Munich
    - Bundesliga and Champions League games in the Allianz Arena Munich
    - Galaxy adventure pool and slide paradise in the Erding thermal baths
    - Skiing in the Wilder Kaiser ski area (largest connected ski area in Austria)
    - Summer tobogganing
    - Water skiing

We also like to go to the multiplex cinema in Rosenheim, to play golf on one of the many beautiful golf courses in the area or simply to swim at Lake Neubeur, which is only a few minutes away from the castle. On the boarding school weekends we also hold our numerous group competitions (e.g. relay races, football, bowling, table tennis, athletics, skiing/snowboarding).
