Course information

  • Focus of Study :
Heessen Castle is a state-recognized private high school with a socio-ecological focus. In order to support our students in the best possible way, we strive to create a learning environment in which school is fun. That's why we attach great importance to ensuring that our colleagues have time for the children's needs. Small class and course sizes of 10 to 15 students support personal learning support. Methodological and content-related deficits are identified and can be eliminated through individually tailored support measures. Active participation and significantly more flexible and individual lessons are possible.

Benefit, Goal of this course :
Only if we deal intensively with the needs and general conditions of our students can personal strengths be specifically developed. Heessen Castle stands for individuality. We specifically challenge and promote the interests and talents of every child. However, this can only be achieved on the basis of sound basic knowledge. We therefore teach the core subjects of German, math and foreign languages in almost all grades of lower secondary school more frequently per week than is intended by the Ministry of Culture.

Accommodation

  • According to the current status, the basic amount for the day school is EUR 5,640 per year (EUR 470 per month) and for the boarding school EUR 13,560 per year (EUR 1,130 per month).

Surrounding Area

  • In the middle of North Rhine-Westphalia, on the border between the Ruhr area and Münsterland, Hamm offers a perhaps unique interplay between historical mining scenery and a modern turnaround. On the eastern edge of the city, in the middle of the “Lippeauen” nature reserve, sits the impressive Heessen Castle monument.

Facilities

  • Today used as a private school and boarding school, the history of the house goes back far into the last millennium. It can be traced back to the early Middle Ages. An imperial document from 975 mentions the town of Heessen for the first time. Large Westphalian noble families such as the Knights of Vollmerstein, von der Recke and von Ketterer took turns as owners. Heessen Castle has belonged to the von Boeselager family since 1775. The building was continually expanded or rebuilt in the style of the respective era. The first students moved in in 1957. The site has been used as a high school and private boarding school for over 60 years. Traces of history can still be seen at the castle today. If you would like to discover it or find out more about the history of the castle, just take a look under the menu item “Events”. You can enjoy the castle atmosphere during a concert or one of our numerous events. In addition, the AG Castle History regularly offers public and private castle tours.

Activity

  • Our students can take part in various competitions and olympiads or obtain European language certificates. You can also experience variety as part of our colorful all-day program with creative, musical or subject-oriented focuses. Especially in the boarding school sector, working groups are offered that enable students to further develop their musical, sporting and creative skills. On the one hand, the working groups are offered directly at Heessen Castle, on the other hand, contacts are established with local clubs and the students are taken there with their own shuttle service.
