About the  Coburg University of Applied Sciences

  • Coburg University in Germany is a public university financed by Bavarian State Ministry of Science and the Arts. As its English translation “University of Applied Sciences and Arts” suggests, a Hochschule is characterized by practice-related teaching and research as well as a strong practical bias. Its educational philosophy is designed to enable its students to apply their theoretical knowledge and methodological know-how to solving concrete problems in their professional careers.

During their studies the students at Coburg University are systematically trained to develop those skills. To make sure that students never lose sight of the practical relevance of what they are learning, both full-time and part-time faculty are required to have gained ample experience in leading positions of business and administration.

With the exception of art-related programs, the standard length of bachelor’s degree programs is seven semesters, one of which is, as a rule, in an internship.

Course information

  • Architecture B.A.
This bachelor’s program in Architecture lasts eight semesters. Students hone their skills in design and construction. They learn how to deal with complex planning requirements and to work in teams. Based on scientific principles and knowledge of the historical architectural contexts, students examine the individual’s basic needs. The aesthetic design of buildings plays an equally important role as their functional, technical and economic planning.

    BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION B.A.
Our students learn everything they need to know in order to solve business and technical management problems. We enable them to independently apply their knowledge of business. The broad basic education and the specialization in the second stage of the program ensure that our graduates are qualified for many different areas of responsibility.

    INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT B.A.
The program in Industrial Management combines the classic business administration program with theoretical and practical elements of the natural sciences and technology. In the first four semesters students gain comprehensive insight into business and expand their knowledge in mathematics and basic science and technical subjects.

    INSURANCE MANAGEMENT B.A.
Well-informed and motivated employees who can understand and serve the needs of customers are key to the success of insurance companies. The requirements for these employees continue to rise as the target group changes its demands and ways of collecting information. New forms of sales and marketing and a higher number of competitors also contribute to changes in the services sector. With this program, Coburg University wants to prepare future employees appropriately for their tasks in the insurance industry. The students learn how to work across all administrative divisions in a solution-oriented manner.

    SOCIAL WORK B.A.
In addition to scientifically well-founded theoretical knowledge, social workers especially need personal competence. The program of Social Work at Coburg University provides this knowledge and encourages active participation, the ability to work in a team, and social skills. Seminars, project workshops, guidance and discussion groups as well as advanced courses hone the future social workers’ competencies in networking in the field.

Location

Accommodation

  • The International Office supports students looking for accommodation. Some students are offered a flat in our student residences which have 500 single apartments with kitchen, bathroom/WC, and modern facilities. The apartments must be rented for a minimum of half a year (September-February and March-August). The rent is between 170 EUR and 220 EUR per month for the dorms and up to around 300 EUR for private rooms.

Surrounding Area

  • The former residence city of Coburg – small in size but unusually rich in architecture – is an ideal location for students who desire a high quality of life as well as quality in learning in a comfortable environment. High-profile historical monuments characterize the old city with its cozy café-lined squares.
The 40,000 residents of Coburg are proud of their city and their university. They take part in the cultural and social life of the city; they sponsor foreign students and are interested in the work of design students presented at the DESIGN CAMPUS OPEN. There are a large number of medium-sized engineering companies and automotive suppliers – as well as a lively creative scene. And Germany‘s largest car insurer is headquartered here. The future has already begun in Coburg.
