  • If you have not met the entry requirements for your degree course, you can study one of our pre-sessional courses, instead of taking another IELTS exam.

  • Focus of Study :

    Our pre-sessional courses support international students who need to meet the English language requirements of their chosen degree.

    We offer both long-term and intensive courses to help you achieve the level you require and offer various start dates throughout the year.

    On successful completion, you can begin your degree at Manchester Metropolitan University without having to take another IELTS test. 


    Curriculum :

    The 5, 10 and 20-week courses may include:

    - Academic reading: identify key arguments, supporting evidence and bias.
    - Academic writing: learn how to write an essay, including referencing and paraphrasing.
    - Academic speaking: presentation and seminar skills.
    - Academic listening: note-taking skills, identifying key information and supporting detail.
    - Critical thinking: distinguish fact from opinion, consider the writer's purpose for writing and identify weaknesses in arguments.
    - Conversation club: practise your spoken English through a variety of generic topics.
    - Pronunciation club: work on specific features of speech and how to make sounds more accurately.
