  • Focus of Study :
    ELC's full-time programs give you the opportunity to study English in a university setting and build the skills you need for academic success. 

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    In the Premium Program, you can customize your studies by choosing courses that will help you meet your goals.

    Curriculum :
    These specialization classes take place on Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm. Choose one specialization course per term. Students can enjoy the studies through extracurricular activities after the class. 
    Classroom Hour :
    This program is composed of 27 class hours per week.

Accommodation

  • On-campus housing

    SFU has a variety of residence complexes for graduate students, undergraduate students, and families. Residences have single rooms with shared facilities, four bedroom townhouses, and one and two bedroom apartments, as well as a "women only" residence. New residences also opened in Fall 2004/2005, with a dining hall and a meal plan.

    Please note: the availability of on-campus housing is insufficient to meet the demand. You may wish to pursue off-campus housing alternatives in addition to applying for residence.

    Off-campus housing

    For students who prefer off-campus accommodation, this service lists a registry of community accommodation, featuring: room and board, light housekeeping units, house sharing, apartments, and suites.

    UniverCity

    UniverCity is a sustainable urban community on Burnaby Mountain,within walking distance to Simon Fraser University. Currently, two new housing projects are moving forward. In addition, UniverCity has provided a range of shops and services located along University High Street. 

Surrounding Area

  • Simon Fraser University Harbor Center location is at 515 West Hastings Street. The building is across the street from a major transit hub; the Waterfront Skytrain and Seabus station. Many hotels are also within walking distance. Please note that the SFU Harbour Center is adjacent to the Harbour Center, which is a commercial facility.


    The City of Vancouver
    With spectacular views of the ocean and mountains, Vancouver is a charming and friendly city. There are lots of interesting neighbourhoods to explore.  Public transit will get you most places of interest, and Google Maps will also help you plan your trip by transit.

Facilities

  • SFU’s libraries are educational places that support learning, research and community engagement. We include maintenance, planning & development, operation and renovation of buildings, utility systems and engineering support.

Activity

  • The Student Support Assistant organizes fun and exciting activities each Friday afternoon during the school term. Although the extracurricular activities are optional, students are highly encouraged to join as a way to meet other students in the program and practice English in fun settings.

    Join SFU ELC activities on Fridays between 12:30pm to 4:30pm.You must sign up in room 141 if you want to join in an activity.

在加拿大的這段時間,除了上課之外,因為希望可以遊覽整個國家,所以也自己著手開始規畫行程。從最開始的規劃、自己找相關的資訊、報名參加活動,所有的過程都是自己獨立完成。之所以能夠自己一手完成這些,我想是因為在新加坡上課的過程中,學校老師給的鼓勵,所以在很多需要英語溝通的地方自己都變得相對於以往有自信,然而寄宿家庭也帶給我莫大的影響,他們教我用正向的態度去面對遇到的難題。我記憶中很深刻的事情是,有幾天我因為加拿大連續幾天的大太陽而顯得有些煩悶,然而家庭告訴我說:如果沒有這些太陽,你來到這裡就看不到這麼美麗的風景。雖然只是很簡單的幾句話,影響卻很大。在還沒有出發之前,我想我和很多人都一樣,認為出國是一件算還蠻了不起的事情,好像出去一趟就會有所成就,一切都會很順利,但事實上並非如此,不是所有的一切都像想像中美好,生活上還是會有許多大大小小的問題需要自己想辦法解決,藉由這次的留學也讓我成長了許多。
