Course Information

  • Curriculum :
The Intensive English course offers year-round every Monday with 24 lessons. You will study 24 hours per week in ILI’s fulltime English Program. You will also have an additional 10 hours per week of teacher-supervised study time to help you consolidate what you have learned in class. During this time in the ILI Self-study Centre, your supervising teacher can give you individual help and guide the direction of your independent study. The General English Program will concentrate your learning experience in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

The full-time program has three parts:
     1. Language introduction and practice. The morning classes form the core of the program and have a balanced approach to all aspects of the language. They are also excellent preparation for IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, or other standardized tests.
     2. Practical language skills. In these afternoon classes, you will develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. More advanced students can substitute an elective exam course for the Skills class (see "Exam Preparation "). We offer IELTS, and TOEFL classes.
     3. Informal help. Following afternoon classes, you can get help from a teacher, browse the Internet, or use books, computers, or audiotapes in ILI's Self-Study Centre.

Location

Accommodation

  • Home Stay
LIVING in a secure and supportive family environment is the foundation of your successfully mastering English. It’s the best way to practice naturallyspoken conversational English and experience the Canadian way of life. An ILI homestay provides a private room for your exclusive use, three meals a day, seven days a week, laundry facilities, and plenty of great conversation. All families are approved by the Host Family Coordinator and ILI has host families available for students under the age of 19 who require legal guardianship in Canada. Upon your arrival in Halifax, the Coordinator will meet you at the airport, bring you to your new home, and introduce you to your family.

Surrounding Area

  • The campus is located on the ground floor of a mall offering all student needs in one convenient location, including bus stops, a post office, restaurants, a large supermarket, clinics, hair stylists, a bank, and a large shopping center within a 10 minute walk from campus. Halifax, Canada's oldest English-speaking city, has both historic charm and the excitement of a modern city. It is Atlantic Canada's capital and largest city. It is only two hours by air from other major cities such as Toronto, New York, and Boston. Halifax has a busy harbourfront and downtown area. The city has a low crime rate and, compared to other Canadian cities, low prices. Five universities, over 35,000 students, 9 hospitals, and a high percentage of professional workers help to make Halifax one of Canada's five "smart" cities. The city's beautiful environment, friendly people, and many festivals attract visitors from all over the world year-round.
