  • Establishment of 1985, Study abroad and learn English with students from over 30 different countries at a fully accredited and internationally recognised English language school. Sydney English Language Centre (SELC) is a school specialising in English language training with university qualified and professional teachers. We provide a high standard of education and care with attention to individuals. Our range of services includes homestay and general accommodation placement with Australian families close to the school. We offer a range of English courses and levels, with flexible entry dates and study paths to suit your individual learning needs. SELC students achieve excellent results in English language tests (IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC, Cambridge FCE, CAE, CPE and Cambridge Business English (BEC)) as well as academic success in future study.   • Focus of Study :
    The General English course teaches students everyday English with a focus on listening and speaking. You will cover all the skills necessary to improve your English level.
     
    Curriculum :
    General English is the best choice if you want to be able to use English better in a variety of situations. While all skills are taught, General English emphasises speaking and listening, and includes a wide range of functional English to help you feel at ease in any situation. At all levels, General English is fun as well as instructive. You will start to feel more at home in the English-speaking world right from the beginning. Students do a progress test every term to measure their improvement.
     
    This course offers all levels from Beginner to Advanced, length: 2 ~ 52 weeks, 21 hours per week plus 2 hours optional conversation class and 5 hours of self study, full-day elective every Wednesday for students who are Intermediate level and above.
    All major skills are covered: * Speaking & Pronunciation * Listening * Reading * Writing * Vocabulary * Grammar
    Course features: * Project work * Task-based lessons * Discussions * Individual counselling * Video lessons * Computer learning * Using English in the real world, e.g. shopping, eating out, going to a post office or bank * News-based lessons

  • Focus of Study :
    Students may also be interested in further study of Business in either their first language or in English. The SELC course provides Business students with academic pathways. Others will return to Business courses at colleges and universities in their own country. Many will return to their job to find that their English language skills have vastly improved.

    Curriculum :
    The English for Business Communication course at SELC is an English for Special Purposes course. It prepares students for working in English in a business environment and also assists students planning to sit the Cambridge Business English Certificate (BEC) exams. The course offers 2 evels from Intermediate to Advanced with 2 – 24 weeks, 21 hours per week plus 2 hours optional conversation class and 5 hours self-study. For BEC students, they will have optional extra homework for exam preparation, focusing on practice tests. The course features are - Full-time course - Interesting and relevant topics - Authentic business materials
    - Realistic business situations - Monthly team projects - Individual PowerPoint Presentations - Role-plays - Business-related excursions
     
    About the BEC Exams
    Business English Certificate Higher (BEC Higher) – Advanced
    A proficiency test of Business English for people who are already in business-oriented work or wish to pursue such a career. The exam consists of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking. Topics include marketing, production, financial services and general office work.
    Business English Certificate Vantage (BEC Vantage) – Upper Intermediate
    This is an examination of Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking in an international business context. Students at a broad range of management and clerical levels as well as those with limited business experience should choose BEC Vantage.
    The Cambridge Business English Certificate exams are accepted worldwide by many companies and universities. See the Cambridge Exams site for the official list of companies that recognise Cambridge BEC exams.

    SELC’s Homestay Program involves Australian families in the Eastern Suburbs. Families are chosen for their high-quality accommodation, friendliness, and interest in people from other cultures. There are 2 types of homestay:
    HALF BOARD:
    * Private home * Breakfast and dinner provided each day
    ROOM AND FACILITIES:
    * Private home
    * No meals provided
    * Use of all facilities (you can cook in the family’s kitchen)
    Homestay counselling is available and students are taught Australian customs and English expressions to help them settle into their homes. Homestay is a wonderful way to experience Australian life while studying English!
     
    Student Lodge
    Sinclairs has 2 student-only residences providing clean, budget accommodation located between SELC and Bondi Beach. There is a range of rooms, all with wireless internet, TV/DVD player and fridge. Light breakfast is included.
    Jack’s Place is a state of the art student accommodation facility in one of Sydney’s best locations. Jack’s was built in 2011 and has become one of Sydney’s most popular student accommodation buildings. The property is located in Elizabeth Bay which is one of the most affluent areas in Central Sydney and a quick train ride to SELC in one direction and the centre of Sydney in the other. Accommodation is brand new with modern kitchen, bathrooms, rooftop deck with BBQ, wireless internet , study rooms and large student lounge area.
    Bondi Beachouse is a conveniently located budget residence only 5 minutes’ walk from Bondi Beach. Features includes: internet cafe, BBQ courtyard, rooftop sun-deck with ocean views, excursions, daily activities, video nights and live entertainment.

    BONDI SERVICED APARTMENTS (serviced weekly) are located between Bondi Beach and SELC.

受美國文化影響很深的我，之前一直都想到英、美國家留學。陰錯陽差地來到澳洲，剛開始真有種失落感，感覺像是被驅逐在權力中心以外。被外放到孤伶伶的南半球，想不出會有什麼好發展。

這裡的咖啡廳超多的，比義大利還多，走五步就有一家，不論是露天或是室內，不論何時都會有很多人，不知是觀光客太多，還是雪梨的步調就是很輕鬆， 到處都有人懷著閒情逸致晒太陽。甚至在台灣應該是忙碌、講究工作效率的銀行，雪梨的工作人員動作都非常慢、非常優閒，而且關門時間都很早。

這讓我體會到，雖然澳洲是個種族多元的國家，但相同語言、文化、生活習慣的人，還是會習慣地聚在一起。當這個族群太過龐大，大到幾乎可以不跟其他族 群接觸，就成了一個封閉的小團體，也失去了來外地生活、體驗多元文化的意義。而且，對於夢想來澳洲生活幾個月，英文就能突飛猛進的人來說，老實說根本不可 能，如果你還是維持相同的交友圈、上課不主動發言、平常也沒什麼機會跟當地人交談的話。所以，最近一直鼓勵自己要敞開胸懷，認識了幾個澳洲朋友，感覺很有趣、很有南半球的熱情與活力。不確定將來是否留在這裡，目前只覺得這城市很活潑、有朝氣，適合沒有包袱地探險跟體驗。
