In addition, LCI English Center provides Academic, General & Business English Courses, Accent Reduction, and Test Preparation classes and has partnerships with Colorado universities for conditional admission and TOEFL waivers. LCI is so sure students will make progress that the center guarantees it. If students' English does not improve at the rate that LCI expects based on their initial test, LCI will provide the additional support and classes students need to reach their target level at no extra charge.

Course Information

  • Focus of Study :
    LCI’s Academic English ESL program focuses on academic preparation for undergraduate, graduate and doctorate programs. The students can continue their studies at any university in the United States.

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    LCI has university partnerships and TOEFL waiver programs with the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, Regis University, Community Colleges of Spokane, Colorado State University Pueblo College of Business, Mesa State College, Western State College,Westwood College and Redstone College. For each of these schools, LCI has a TOEFL waiver for Level 5 students and can do conditional admission for LCI students. The AEP program prepares students for entry into the university or college of their choice or purely to learn English in a rigorous and challenging manner. Language instruction includes all the language skills with a strong emphasis on written work. Each aspect of the communication needed for university or college work is studied in LCI’s English for academic purposes.

    Curriculum :
    The Academic English ESL Program courses have five levels from beginner to advanced and include TOEFL preparation. The English for Academic Purposes program (AEP) at LCI is an intensive English Program with college-level English objectives. The AEP program is a full time language program with 24 hours of instruction per week given in five terms of nine to ten weeks overoneyear. Students enrolling in the AEP program have an English language assessment to ensure placement in the appropriate level. Students can then progress through the levels until they areready for university studies. Each part of the program focuses on developing the students’ effective communication skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing at the level needed for success at an English-speaking university.

Course Information

  • Focus of Study and Benefits : 
    This program is for students whose goal is to improve their conversational English in the shortest time possible to progress in students' career and life. The program is ideal if students ould like to combine learning English with exploring a new country and culture. LCI’s General English lessons focus on the four principles of Speaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing.

    Curriculum : 
    General English group classes are small groups of just 4-16 students per class. Prior to their classes starting students will go through an assessment process to place them in the appropriate level. LCI’s General English program has five levels from beginner to advanced. Students may also choose to complement their group classes with additional private instruction focused on their individual needs. A cultural component to assist students with their awareness and adaptation to life in the U.S.A. is part of all language programs at LCI.

課程主要是跟口語有關,畢竟我們在學校所學的英文能力能藉此發揮,才能習慣成自然,我是這樣想的。課堂第一天,老師與班上學生討論有興趣的議題與所期待能在這門課中獲得什麼,選擇自己所感興趣的,然後盡情參與其中。

有趣的是,一個班級就如同文化的大熔爐,觀點與文化的不同常會互相腦力激盪而後產生獨特的見解,比如說,某次上課主題為社群網站,討論過程中,可以了解到不同國情文化使用社群網絡的現象與特色。
不同於我們對於上課的刻板肅穆氛圍,課堂中取而代之的是如同歡樂的宴會氣氛,每位同學皆踴躍的表達自己的看法,同時也尊重他人的不同見地,若討論到敏感議題時例如政治,如何有風度地接受別人的看法,並且機智給予回應,是我在這個月當中所學到的寶貴經驗,不僅止於課堂討論,同學之間相處也是不吝給予指點,並當下指出你的錯誤迅速解決問題,避免問題隨著時間擴大與複雜化,這也是令我印象最深刻的。如何有技巧的不讓對方感到不舒服與保持組內的和諧,在這短短的一個月當中,我確實學到不少。
