  • The University of California, Riverside is a public research university and one of the ten general campuses of the University of California system. The main campus sits on 1,200 acres (486 ha) in a suburban district of Riverside, California, United States, with a branch campus of 20 acres (8 ha) in Palm Desert. Founded in 1907 as the UC Citrus Experiment Station, Riverside, pioneered research in biological pest control and the use ofgrowth regulators responsible for extending the citrus growing season in California from four to nine months. Some of the world's most important research collections on citrus diversity and entomology, as well as science fiction andphotography, are located at Riverside. UCR's undergraduate College of Letters and Science opened in 1954. The Regents of the University of Californiadeclared UCR a general campus of the system in 1959, and graduate students were admitted in 1961. To accommodate an enrollment of 21,000 students by 2015, more than $730 million has been invested in new construction projects since 1999 Preliminary accreditation of the UCR School of Medicine was granted in October 2012 and the first class will enroll in August 2013. It is the first new research-based public medical school in 40 years.

    Curriculum :
    Intensive English Program is designed for students who wish to gain English skill in a short amount of time in an intensive English speaking environment. The class offers levels from beginner to advanced, 6 levels with 15 students in each class. Instruction from many IEP teachers, gives students the opportunity to hear different English voices and learn from a variety of education experts. IEP's instructors are highly educated and experienced professionals with extensive teaching experience both in the US and in international environments. Students have to be at least 15 years of age for this program; there are no language requirement. Students will be tested and placed into the appropriate level upon arrival.


    Classroom Hour :
    24 hours per week, from Monday to Friday. Course schedule may vary for each level.

    For conditional admission, instead of submitting language proficiency test scores, applicant may complete English courses prior to the academic program. The length of the English course is determined based on the applicant's level of English proficiency.

    Extension Residence Center Open year-round and conveniently located within the UCR Extension Center, the Extension Residence Center (ERC) is the most cost-effective option for students. Rooms are generally double-occupancy, with a limited number of single rooms available. All rooms are furnished and air conditioned and include: Private bathroom. High-speed wireless internet. Telephone (free, unlimited local calls). Cable television. Bed linens and towels.
     
    ERC is ideal for students staying less than two weeks. A breakfast plan is included in the fee. ERC does not have kitchen facilities. Laundry facilities are located within the building. IEP organizes special activities for students staying in the ERC, including camping trips, hiking, movies, parties and barbeques.
     
    International Village
     
    Open year-round and located across the street from the UCR Extension Center, the International Village (IV) offers single- and double-occupancy apartments with living rooms and kitchens. All rooms are furnished and air-conditioned and include: Private bathroom. High-speed internet. Telephone (free, unlimited local calls). Free premium cable service. Ideal for students staying two quarters or more.
     
    Other facilities available to students include a computer lab, fitness gym, billiards room, sports field and basketball court. Laundry facilities are available within the building. IV is a privately run residence located on the UCR campus. Inquiries are made directly through IV.
     
    Off campus housing
     
    American Family Homestay
     
    The American Family Homestay program is the most economical housing option and the best opportunity for students to experience American life and customs and to improve their English. Students live in the home of an American family in the Riverside area. All rooms are furnished, double-occupancy. All meals are provided. The family also provides transportation to and from school daily.
