About the  English Language Institute

  • As the only intensive English language program in the metropolitan Detroit area, the English Language Institute (ELI) of Wayne State University (WSU) has specialized exclusively in teaching English communication, cultural orientation, and academic preparation skills to non-native speakers of English from all over the world for more than 35 years.The ELI uses the newest language-teaching methodology and the most up-to-date audio, video, and computer technology available, including a remote-access language lab. Small classes and highly trained instructors of ELI's Intensive English Program make it possible for students to improve their English rapidly and effectively. Wayne State is dedicated to preparing students to excel by combining the academic excellence of a major research university with the practical experience of an institution that by its history, location and diversity represents a microcosm of the world we live in. Reflecting its location and the excellent international reputation of its graduate schools, particularly in the sciences, Wayne State boasts the most diverse student body among Michigan’s public universities.

  • Wayne State University (WSU) is a public research university located in Detroit, Michigan, United States, in the city's Midtown Cultural Center Historic District and Wayne State University Buildings Historic District. Founded in 1868, WSU consists of 13 schools and colleges offering 370 programs to nearly 29,000 graduate and undergraduate students. It is currently Michigan's third-largest university and one of the 50 largest universities in the United States. The WSU main campus encompasses 203 acres (822,000 m²) linking more than 100 education and research buildings in the heart of Detroit. It also has five extension centers in the metro Detroit area providing access to a limited selection of courses. Course Information

  • Focus of Study : Wayne State's Intensive English Program (IEP) offers more than 50 years of experience meeting the academic, professional, and social needs of international students from more than 100 countries. The curriculum emphasizes preparing individuals for academic and professional success.


    Curriculum : For those seriously interested in improving their English and academic skills and preparing for university study in a relatively short period of time, the ELI provides the services and benefits of the only intensive English language program in metropolitan Detroit. This intensive program consists of up to 24 class hours per week of beginning-level through advanced-level instruction. Beginning and intermediate classes teach communicative skills and integrate listening, speaking and pronunciation in one module and reading, writing and grammar in a second, week-long module. Advanced classes continue to reinforce basic skills while emphasizing academic skills.

Facilities

  • Wayne State is constantly upgrading facilities to give students the best space in which to study. Recent improvements include expanded classrooms and labs in several buildings. Our wireless network is available in most WSU instructional space. Wayne State has six libraries, including the Adamany Undergraduate Library which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The libraries provide computer labs to give you access to research, homework and the internet.

安心

整體我很喜歡,老師很親切,如果你有什麼不懂,老師會用最簡單的單字和肢體語言跟你解釋,讓你能很容易知道,學校也提供很好的學生休息室,給我們可以吃午餐及跟其他學生聊天,每一個月學校也會舉辦活動,讓我們去參加。
原本我一直煩惱,我的英文說得這麼爛,來到一個人生地不熟又語言不通的國家,只有我一個人沒有認識任何人,我該怎麼辦,直到我真的來到了這裡,我很慶幸有這機會自己也沒有放棄這個機會,來到這裡發現我之前所想的都是白擔心了,雖然英文很爛但只要你試著說加上肢體語言,別人都是聽得懂得,我收穫最大就是,不管想做什麼事,不要放棄,做就對了。踏出台灣才知道自己的不足,台灣有很多地方還沒這麼進步,這可能就是增進國際視野吧!!
