  • Quality education at a reasonable price... this is the goal of West Chester University, the second largest of the 14 institutions of higher learning that compose the State System of Higher Education of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. A comprehensive and multipurpose university, West Chester serves individuals of all ages with a variety of programs to fill their educational needs. West Chester offers degrees in the arts and sciences, teacher preparation and certification, advanced study preparation in fields such as medicine and law, education for specific professions, and continuing education. Seepage 62 for a complete listing of undergraduate degree programs. Total enrollment at West Chester includes more than 12,800 undergraduate students and about 2,300 graduate students. While most undergraduates are recent high school graduates preparing for career objectives, many others are older individuals, including veterans and homemakers, who either never before had the opportunity for a college education or whose schooling was interrupted.

Conditional admission

  • With over level 112 in ELS, students can be accepted to Bachelor and Master's programs. Both Undergraduate and Graduate schools issue a CLA to students.

    any of the Homestays are located throughout the West Chester borough. Living in a homestay will require students to travel (no longer than 45 minutes) using public or private transportation. The SEPTA train, West Chester County Bus line, and local taxi services are all convenient options for students.

    Meals: Seven (7) meals per week are included in the dorm booking. This meal plan allows for dining at various locations throughout campus. All dining facilities offer a wide range of nutritional foods to fit every lifestyle.

    North Campus Residential Halls are set up in the traditional dorm style and are approximately 16' X 12' with a large window. The layout provides for two students (of the same gender) per room with communal bathrooms and sinks down the hall. Each room contains two single beds, with mattresses 80" in length. The rooms are also equipped with two (2) desks, two (2) desk chairs, two (2) dressers, two (2) wardrobes, and under bed storage. Much of the furniture is moveable and students can arrange as they choose. Basic cable is available in each room and the entire building is equipped with wifi capabilities. 

     Each hall contains laundry facilities, study rooms, secured entry/exit 24 hours a day, front desk attendants, and resident advisors on each floor. Most halls have a shared kitchenette in the general lounge area. All dorms are within walking distance of dining facilities and the student union. 

     Note: Students will be housed in Schmidt Hall during the academic school year and Tyson Hall during the summer term.  

Surrounding Area

  • The Borough of West Chester is the county seat of Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 18,461 at the 2010 census. West Chester University of Pennsylvania is located in the borough. Valley Forge, the Brandywine Battlefield, Marsh Creek State Park, and other historical attractions are nearby, as are Longwood Gardens, the Brandywine River Museum, and Christian C. Sanderson Museum.
