  • The International Extension Programs (IEP) unit of the College of Extended Learning offers regularly scheduled and customized short- and long-term language and professional training programs for students and professionals from across the world. IEP instructors are highly trained professionals who understand how to help students navigate through the complexities of learning a second language in addition to overcoming the challenges of adjusting to living abroad. The suburban city of San Bernardino where the institution is located, is in the inland region of southern California, with easy access to Los Angeles, San Diego, Disneyland, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, beaches, and mountains.

  • California State University, San Bernardino, also known as Cal State San Bernardino or CSUSB, is a public university and one of the twenty-three general campuses of the California State University system. The main campus sits on 441 acres (178 ha) in the suburban University District of San Bernardino, California, United States, with a branch campus of 40 acres (16 ha) in Palm Desert, California, opened in 1986. In 2011, California State University, San Bernardino was named a 2012 Best College in the Western Region by The Princeton Review for the eighth straight year in a row, ranking CSUSB among the top 25 percent of universities across the nation. Also in 2011, California State University, San Bernardino’s College of Business and Public Administration was recognized by European CEO Magazineas one of the top 20 schools of business in the world and one of the world's 18 most innovative business schools.Founded in 1965, Cal State San Bernardino's enrollment annually tops 17,500.The university offers 138 types of Bachelor's degrees, 67 Master's degrees, one Doctoral degree (Doctor of Education), and 23 teaching credentials.CSUSB's sports teams are known as the Coyotes and play in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in the Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The nickname was inspired by the coyotes that inhabit the area around the campus, which lies on the foothills of San Bernardino Mountains. The CSUSB women’s volleyball team has won sixCCAA and three West Region titles. The men’s soccer team went to the NCAA Division II national semifinals, capturing the university’s first California Collegiate Athletic Association title.

Conditional admission

  • "Conditional Acceptance" is available to international students who meet all university entrance requirements except for the minimum English scores. CSUSB requires the following English scores for admission: undergraduates--TOEFL 500 (173 computer-based, 61 Internet-based) or IELTS 5.5; graduates--TOEFL 550 (213 computer-based, 79/80 Internet-based) or IELTS 6.0

Course Information

  • Focus of Study :
    The American Culture and Language Program (ACLP) is designed for international students, professionals, or those seeking an intensive English experience focusing on reading, writing, and speaking English, as well as an introduction to American culture.
     
    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    •TOEFL exam preparation included (intermediate and advanced levels only)
    •Successful completion of Level 5 will waive the TOEFL requirement for undergraduate admission into CSUSB
    •Successful completion of the Intensive English Program does not guarantee CSUSB admission.
     
    Curriculum :
    Intensive English Program is held for 10 weeks during fall, winter, spring, and summer quarters, 4 to five hours each day from Monday to Friday. In order to maximize the individual attention students receive from their instructors, classroom capacity is between 15-20 students. This program helps students improve their English speaking, reading and writing skills and assists them in meeting the requirements for admission into undergraduate programs.

제가 재밌게 30주 동안 다녀온 대학교에 대해서 후기를 남기려 하는데요
그 학교는 바로 캘리포니아 주립대학교, 샌 버나디노입니다.



30주동안이면 긴 시간인데요. 
그 시간이 짧게 느껴질만큼 재미나게 다녀왔어요.
저는 영어에 대한 두려움이 항상 가지고 있어서 사회 생활을 나가서 잘 할 자신이 없어서 그리고 전공이 영어인데도 불구하고 잘 하지 
못해서 항상 그게 단점으로 생각 되었거든요. 영어 점수와 다른 것들은 다 좋은데 대화 할때 외국인에 대한 불안감이 있어서 
머릿 속에는 떠오르는데 막상 입에서 나오지 않고 멤돌기만 했어요.
그래서 그 결정적인 이유로 어학연수라는 길을 선택하게 되었습니다.
한마디로 정리하자면 정말! 잘 한 선택이었다고 생각해요. 
두려움이 많이 없어졌고 그리고 머릿속에서만 멤돌던 영단어 문법들이 이제는 잘 정리되어서 바로바로 나오고 있어요. ㅎㅎ
친구들도 많이 사귀어서 한국으로 온 친구들도 있어서 종종 만나서 스터디 그룹 형식으로 서로서로를 도와 주고도 있습니다.



일단 제가 다녀온 프로그램이랑 그리고 그 학교에 대해서 약간 설명해 드리겠습니다.
제가 다녀온 프로그램은 - > 집중 영어 프로그램 (주20시간) (English Language Program (20hrs/wk)) 이구요.
미국 문화와 언어 프로그램은 국제 학생, 전문가, 또는 집중 영어 이수 프로그램을 원하는 학생들을 위해 짜여졌으며 읽기, 쓰기, 영어 말하기와 미국문화의 이해에 초점이 맞추어져 공부를 하였어요. 저한테 딱인 프로그램이었습니다.


수업 레벨은 6단계로 나눠져 있어서 일단 가면 내가 어느정도의 실력이 있는지 평가를 하고 학교에서 지정해준 클래스에 수업을 받게 됩니다.
물론 더 나아지면 교수님과 상담후에 바꿀 수도 있어요. 저는 약간 장기로 갔기때문에 그렇게 해서 높은 반으로도 올라갔습니다. 

규모는 작은 편인 15명 정도가 같이 수업을 들었구요. 그게 너무 좋았어요. 저는 많은 사람들 앞에서 말을 잘 못하는 편인데 사람들이 많지 않아서 
제 이야기에 귀를 귀울여 주는 그런 느낌을 받고 소 토론 형식으로 진행되어서 편하게 말하고 공부 할 수 있었습니다. 



숙박에 대해서 이야기 하자면 저는 저는 ' 학교내 거주, 즉 기숙사' 를 선택 하였구요.
선택한 큰 이유는 아무래도 더 많이 친구를 사귀고 그 문화를 익힐 수 있을거 같아서 선택했습니다.
기숙사는 Arrowhead Village 를 선택하여 지냈어요.
아무래도 클래스 메이트들이랑 수업을 같이 듣는 그리고 일반적으로 대학에 다니고 있는 학생들이 많다보니 식당가에서도 만날 가능성도 많았구요.
지리적으로 좋아서 같이 쇼핑도 가고 음식도 먹으러 가고 그렇게 다녔어요. 너무 좋았어요.



캘리포니아라는 지리적 위치때문에 사시사철 따뜻한 편이라서 두꺼운 옷이 필요없어서 
다시 돌아올때 짐이 많지 않아서 좋았네요.
가고싶던 샌디애고 지역들이랑 그리고 디즈니는 정말 원 없이 갔던거 같아요,
교통 편이 좋아서 걱정없이 다녀왔구요.



만약에 이 대학교를 생각하고 싶으신 분들이라면 적극 추천해 드려요!!

私はCSUのいくつかあるキャンパスの中でサンバーナーディーノを選びました。


治安がまり良くないと言われているこの街ですが、高校生の時に一度サンバーナーディーノの一般家庭にホームステイしてことがあり、
その時とても楽しく過ごした記憶があるので、またこの街に来たいという強い思いがあって、
ここを選びました。

滞在先は必ず寮にするという両親との約束があったので、学校の寮に入寮しました。
寮に住んでいて、夜遅くに外を一人で出歩いたりしなければまず危険な目に合うことはないと思います。
また、寮に住むと他の留学生や現地のアメリカ人の友達もできるし、寮でパーティをしたりもするので、
非常におすすめです!
ホームステイなども良いと思いますが、割り当てられた家庭によってはキャンパスから遠い場合もあるので、
通学が少し大変かなと思います。

授業は何の申し分なく、先生達、クラスメート、カリキュラム自体もしっかりしていたので、
毎日楽しく授業をうけることができました。
アクティビティも楽しいです。
ほんとうにここをえらんで良かったと思います。
