  • For over 50 years, students have chosen ELS to achieve their English language goals. With 12 class levels, state-of-the-art language technology centers, multiple testing services and university admission assistance, ELS ensures success through our personalized approach and commitment to student achievement. ELS' rapidly globalizing world presents many challenges; however, those challenges bring with them many opportunities. Being able to communicate effectively in English can help students make the most of these opportunities and enable student to accomplish his dreams. ELS International Pathways provide one with a seamless journey to further education. Students can study English with ELS in 83 different locations in 11 countries. By completing the ELS English for Academic Purposes program, student satisfy the English requirement for more than 650 ELS partner universities worldwide. ELS University Admission Services will guide students from start to finish as he progress toward his chosen university. Students will make new friends from around the world and come to understand their cultures. This will ensure one a successful journey through a rapidly changing, globalizing world.

About the  California Lutheran University

  • California Lutheran University(CLU) is a private university located in Thousand Oaks, a small southern California city. It was founded in 1959 by the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, but is nonsectarian by offering interfaith resources. The institution houses 356 faculty members, 2,500 undergraduates and about 1,400 graduate students. California Lutheran University has four academic divisions; the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Management, the Graduate School of Education, and the Adult Evening program. Across all divisions, class sizes are kept small; 16 students on average. CLU offers undergraduates either a Bachelor of Arts and Science depending on their field of study, in 36 academic majors and 31 minors, with the ability to double-major. There are 30 graduate programs offering credentials and certifications to doctorate degrees.

Conditional admission

  • With over level 112 in ELS, students can be accepted to Bachelor and Master's programs. Both Undergraduate and Graduate schools issue a CLA to students.

    Description: 2013 Temporary Summer Meal Adjustments ONLY applicable to Sessions 6, 7, 8 and 9: • Students living on campus will receive a
    calendar listing the dates and times on- campus dining will be available. Dining options include the Cafeteria and Centrum Cafe. On select weekends that both may be closed, students will be able to eat at restaurants walking distance from campus. 
    • During these sessions, students living on campus will not receive a meal plan and the housing price will be discounted. Students will be able to individually add money to their CLU ID Cards to use at any of the dining
    options on campus. The amount added will be at the student's discretion and will allow the student discounted meals. Private houses only 2 minutes from the ELS center. Each house has four bedrooms; students will be placed in double or triple accommodation depending on availability. Each house has three bathrooms, a shared living room, kitchen, laundry access, built-in
    book shelves, plenty of storage and a back yard. Each student has a bed, desk, dresser, closet, and high speed internet access. Linens are included at no extra cost.

    Description: Host family students are

    beautiful campus of California Lutheran University. About 20 kilometers from the Pacific Coast and 70 kilometers from downtown Los Angeles, Thousand Oaks is ranked as one of the safest cities of its size in the United States. It offers art, outdoor festivals, shopping and fantastic weather year-round.
    The Thousand Oaks are has a warm
    temperate year-round climate. Afternoons are usually warm and sunny, and evenings and mornings can be cool. Students should bring
    appropriate clothing.

수업 끝나고는 뭐하는거죠?
Q.홈페이지 통해서 수업 프로그램이랑 시간같은 것 대충 봤는데요
점심 시간 즈음에 끝나는 프로그램들도 있더라구요
이 경우에 오후에는 자유시간인가요? 아니면 수업 말고 다른 프로그램을 하는건가요?
 
A. 말씀하신 것 처럼 오전 타임으로 수업이 끝나는 것은 정규 수업이 그 시간에
끝난다는 것입니다. 물론 담당 교수나 상황에 따라 바뀌긴 하겠지만
보통 정규 수업이 끝나면 하루 프로그램은 모두 마칩니다.
즉 수업 이후의 시간은 학생이 개인적으로 활용하시면 될 듯 합니다.

이 학교는 우선 동양인이 상당히 많았어요. 특히 동양인 중에서도
중동 쪽 사람들이 많아서 놀랐네요
위치가 LA이다보니까 한국인도 꽤 있었던 것 같아요
 
일단 수업은 오전에 스피킹이나 뭐 이런 회화 수업 했구요
오후 시간에는 넉넉하게 숙제하거나 친구들이랑 놀러가고 그랬어요
학교 주변에 볼거리도 많고
무엇보다도 LA라서 한국 음식 먹고싶을 때 찾아가기도 좋았구요
또 수업 후에 학교에서 하는 프로그램들이 되게 많아요
동아리처럼 클럽 활동 해도 되고 학교 주위에 어린아이들 돌봐주거나 하는
자원봉사도 있었어요 그래서 책상에서 공부하는 거 말고도
실제로 미국 사람들이랑 접하고 얘기하면서도 영어 실력이 많이 늘지 않았나 싶네요
