Course Information

  • Focus of Study :
    The ELS Intensive English Programs use ELS' proven communicative approach to language learning. The Programs will challenge students' abilities and allow them to have fun while developing all language skills. Courses for both programs meet for 30 lessons per week, so the students are certain to learn quickly
     
    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    The program helps students improve English by focusing on the skills he will need to communicate well in everyday business and social settings. Morning classes focus on listening and speaking skills as well as vocabulary development and language structure. In Masters levels, students take one Skills  
    Enhancement Class in the morning. Afternoon classes are dedicated to Skills Enhancement Classes in every level.
     
    Curriculum :
    The development of important language skills and elements such as listening, speaking, pronunciation and vocabulary allows one to communicate accurately and effectively. Students 
     practice conversation and other speaking skills using practical, real-world English. Students learn to develop strategic listening skills and improve your use of grammar.
     
    Skills Enhancement Classes allow him to customize his program to suit his individual interests.
    Sample classes include American Idioms, American Film, Current Events and American Culture*.
    Choices vary by location.
    In our modern Language Technology Centers, students work on their individual language skills and  
    objectives through technology-supported learning.Contact America! provides students with regular opportunities to meet with native English speakers, listen to guest lecturers and participate in local excursions.

    Structure/Speaking Practice with emphasis on vocabulary enrichment and language technology

    Benefit, Goal of this course : 
    If students want to learn English while still having time to visit local cities and attractions, the ELS Semi-Intensive English program is the perfect choice! Student will take classes in the morning and have afternoons free to explore and use his improving English.
     
    Curriculum :  
    The development of important language skills and elements, such as listening, speaking, pronunciation and vocabulary, allows him to communicate accurately and effectively.
     
    Students practice conversation and other speaking skills using practical, real-world English. Students learn

Course information

  • Focus of Study :
    English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is set out to provide students with the fundamental academic tools they will need in order to study abroad. EAP will be the initiative to students' pursuit of higher education.

    Benefit, Goal of this course : 
    Students who enroll in EAP program will ultimately aim for conditional admissions to ELS' 650+ partner universities. Students who complete all 12 levels of Intensive EAP courses will be issued a Certificate of Completion which will prove students' English proficiency at more than 650 universities.

    Curriculum :
    Students at all levels will be offered Language Technology Center and Reading/Writing lessons. From beginner(101-103) to advanced(107-109), students will be provided with structure/speaking and vocabulary lessons while masters (110-112) will be provided with Skills Enhancement Class and Language Studies additionally.

    Meals: No meals are included. Buccaneer Ridge Apartments are self-catering accommodations with a kitchen. During the semester, on-campus dining is available and
    includes twelve different options as well as two small convenience stores. Meal cards can be purchased and Kroger supermarket is within 15 minutes' walk of campus. There is also a range of restaurants, from fast food to better dining, within walking distance of the campus.

    Description: The apartments have 2 single bedrooms, each with private bathroom, a shared kitchen, washer and dryer room and a living room and small balcony. There is a clubhouse with TV and recreational facilities next to the apartment complex, which has an outdoor swimming pool and patio area for grilling. The ETSU campus has its own hiking
    trails around campus. A free shuttle service, the "Bucshot," serves the campus, including to the Buccaneer Ridge area, during the
    semester.

Surrounding Area

  • ELS/Johnson City offers students a unique
    study choice at a well-respected public university in a welcoming community nestled
    in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Students can take advantage of a wide range
    of recreational opportunities both on and off campus such as hiking, skiing, rafting, fishing
    and golfing. The host institution, East Tennessee State University, is a major state
    institution with 112 undergraduate programs, 7 graduate certificates, 75 Masters programs and 13 Doctoral programs. ELS students have access to the university's student
    facilities including the library, weight room, martial arts training area, indoor swimming
    pool, aerobic studio and an indoor climbing wall. Not to be forgotten is the campus's
    status as a certified arboretum and its close
    proximity to the famous Bristol Motor Speedway, home to one of NASCAR's most anticipated annual events. Johnson City has a moderate climate. Spring
    and fall are very comfortable while summers are hot and humid. Winters are cool and the
    lowest temperatures are below freezing, but snow is not common.

Q、学校周辺の環境について教えて下さい。



A、

ジョンソンシティはテネシー州の東、バージニア州とノースカロライナ州の州境近くに位置します。
自然に囲まれた環境で、ハイキング、スキー、ボート、ゴルフ、釣りなども楽しむことが出来ます。
音楽の町としても知られており、毎月第1金曜日には音楽とアートのイベントも開催されています。
学校は丘と谷に囲まれた自然豊かな環境にあるイーストテネシー州立大学のキャンパス内で開講されています。

ELSのインテンシブ英語プログラムに参加しました。

授業はとてもわかりやすくて、文法の基礎から会話のロールプレイなど、
すごく役に立つ英語を学ぶことが出来ました。
私は英語が苦手で、最初は先生の話す英語もすごく集中しないと聞き取れず、やっていけるか不安でしたが、
わからないところをどんどん質問するようにしたので、2週間ぐらい経った頃にはかなり慣れました。
慣れると本当に生活が楽しくなって、友人もたくさん作ることができました。
イーストテネシー大学の施設も利用できるので、体育館で運動したり、屋内のクライミングも体験しました。
大学への正規留学は難しい状況だったのですが、アメリカの大学生の生活を少し味わえてとても満足できました。

私は高校卒業後、アメリカ学校に進学を考えていたのですが

高校卒業後すぐに大学に進学するよりも語学学校できちんと基礎を学んでから大学に進学しようと思い
この学校を選びました。

大学に進学する学生向けの学校なので、大学レベルの読解やスピーキング、リーディングが学べるので
とても力になりました。
授業は、簡単な受け答えができるレベルから大学で勉強できるレベルまで、
段階的に上達できるようにカリキュラムが組まれているので
無理せず自分のレベルにあったクラスで学ぶことが出来るところもとても良かったです。

金曜日は学校が午前中までなので、
週末には友達とヒーリングしながら散歩したり、スポーツして遊んでいました。
