About the  Concordia University

  • Concordia University is a private, Christian university located in Portland, Oregon. Established in 1905 as a University preparatory school, the institution added college classes in 1950 and the high school was split-off in 1977. The school of approximately 3,100 undergraduate and graduate students is affiliated with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and campuses across Oregon and is in the process of opening a law school in Idaho. The university has four colleges and eighteen majors. Athletic teams, known as the Cavaliers, are members of the Cascade Collegiate Conference and compete at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics level.

  • Focus of Study :
    Structure/Speaking Practice with emphasis on vocabulary enrichment and language technology
    Benefit, Goal of this course : If students want to learn English while still having time to visit local cities and attractions, the ELS Semi-Intensive English program is the perfect choice! Student will take classes in the morning and have afternoons free to explore and use his improving English.
     
    Curriculum :  
    The development of important language skills and elements, such as listening, speaking, 
     
    pronunciation and vocabulary, allows him to communicate accurately and effectively.
     
    Students practice conversation and other speaking skills using practical, real-world English. Students learn  
    to write with accuracy and effectiveness, develop strategic listening skills and improve your use  
    of grammar.
     
    Students work on his individual language skills and objectives through technology-supported learning  
    in our modern Language Technology Centers.
     
    Contact America! provides student with regular opportunities to meet with native English speakers, visit
    and observe university courses, listen to guest lecturers and participate in local excursions

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    Students who wish to study English while on vacation in the USA may do so in the ELS American Explorer Program.
    Curriculum : This program features three morning lessons per day (Monday through Friday) for a total of 15 lessons per week. Afternoons are free for recreation and relaxation.

Course information

  • Focus of Study :
    English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is set out to provide students with the fundamental academic tools they will need in order to study abroad. EAP will be the initiative to students' pursuit of higher education.

    Benefit, Goal of this course : 
    Students who enroll in EAP program will ultimately aim for conditional admissions to ELS' 650+ partner universities. Students who complete all 12 levels of Intensive EAP courses will be issued a Certificate of Completion which will prove students' English proficiency at more than 650 universities.

    Curriculum :
    Students at all levels will be offered Language Technology Center and Reading/Writing lessons. From beginner(101-103) to advanced(107-109), students will be provided with structure/speaking and vocabulary lessons while masters (110-112) will be provided with Skills Enhancement Class and Language Studies additionally.

    Description: Neils Hall has different units (like townhouses). In each unit, there are five rooms which have two beds, a microwave, and mini refrigerator, and a divided closet in each room. Linens are also included. Two rooms are downstairs, and three rooms are upstairs. There is a full shared bathroom both downstairs and upstairs.
     Two townhouses are for female use and two townhouses are for male use. In one of the two townhouses, there is a full kitchen and small furnished living room. In the other townhouse, there is a TV and a huge dining room/living room. The dining and living rooms have sofas, table, etc provided. These areas are meant to be shared by everybody in those two units. The Concordia University students call these townhouses because they feel like they live in a shared home. Neils Hall offers a BBQ and patio area outside to enjoy summer evenings together with ELS students and CU students. This living space really promotes community between the units and fosters great relationships between ELS students and CU students. Self-service laundry machines are available in Neils Hall for a small fee. Public Safety is present on campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Surrounding Area

  • ELS/Portland, located on the lovely Concordia University campus, is less than 30 minutes from downtown Portland. The fourth largest city on the West Coast, Portland is also the most affordable, with the lowest housing costs and no sales tax (Happy shopping!). Forbes magazine voted Portland the second “Safest City in the USA” and “America’s Best Downtown.” Students also enjoy fun activities at Mount Hood, the Oregon beaches and Seattle. Portland enjoys traditional Pacific Northwest weather, which includes rain, to help keep Portland beautifully green. Summers are warm and pleasant but a jacket is needed for cool evenings. December and January are the coolest months; warm winter clothing is recommended for these months.

  • Students from all over the world with different nationality and cultural background have chosen ELS program to study English in a new Environment. Majority of the students come from Asian countries including Japan (30%), Taiwan (25%) and Korea (20%). Some students from Central America (6%), Europe(9%) and Middle eastern countries (4%) have also chose ELS to enrich their English skills.

 また、空港送迎サービスはありますか?

A:大学進学コースであるアカデミックイヤーコースは、
 101~112の全12レベルに分かれており、初級~マスターまで段階があります。
 各段階を修了する目安が4週間となっておりますので、
 初級から始める場合は約8ヶ月程度かかります。
 また、空港ピックアップサービスは追加料金$135が必要となります。

Q、アメリカン・エクスプローラー・プログラムについて教えて下さい。



A、

短期留学で、英語学習と同じくらいの比重で、観光、文化体験など様々なアクティビティを体験したい方にお勧めです。
午前中は授業、午後は観光のための自由時間となっています。 
授業は月曜日から金曜日までで、レベルによって授業内容は異なります。
週15レッスンとレッスン数が少ないので、学生ビザ発行はございません。
最短受講期間は2週間となっております。

学校のあるポートランドは、とても便利で、落ち着いた雰囲気の街です。

とても暮らし易い街だと思います。
広い公園があって、そこでピクニックをしたり、ハイキングなども楽しめました。
私はこの街の落ち着いた雰囲気がすごく好きになり、いつかまた暮らしたいとも思うようになったくらいです。
学校はコンコーディア大学にあって、大学の施設も利用できます。
なので、アメリカのキャンパスライフの雰囲気が味わえてとても楽しかったです。
授業ではスピーキングの練習が結構できたので、英語には全然自信のなかった私でもかなり会話が出来るようになりました。
本当に満足できる、楽しい留学生活でした♪

私は今回1ヶ月程度の短期滞在ということで、AEPを選択しました。


ずっとポートランドに住んでみたいと思っていて、今回この学校のAEPというコースを見つけて、
迷わず申請しました。
授業は週15レッスンで、午後は自由時間になるので宿題をしたり、友達と観光したりしていました。

ポートランドは物価も高くなくて生活し易いし、治安もよいので安心して生活できます。
ワインやビールが有名で、食事も美味しいです。

滞在している間は、アメリカ人の友達が欲しくて寮で生活していました。
ルームメイトはアメリカ人の年下の女の子でしたが、いつもとても気にかけてくれて、
私の英語がつたなくて少し申し訳ない気持ちにもなりましたが、1カ月の間に仲良くなれたし他の友達も出来たので、
寮にして本当によかったなと思います。

また機会があれば是非ポートランドに戻って来たいと思います。
