  • College of Mount Saint Vincent is a Catholic liberal arts college located in the northwest corner of the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York. It is the northernmost location in the New York City and was founded by the Sisters of Charity of New York in 1847. This private catholic college serves 1,800 students with professional undergraduate programs in nursing, business, communication, and education. The college also offers a strong liberal arts undergraduate curriculum with distinctive strengths in biology, biochemistry, English, psychology and sociology. The college offers graduate degree programs in nursing, business, TESOL and education.

    Structure/Speaking Practice with emphasis on vocabulary enrichment and language technology

    Benefit, Goal of this course : If students want to learn English while still having time to visit local cities and attractions, the ELS Semi-Intensive English program is the perfect choice! Student will take classes in the morning and have afternoons free to explore and use his improving English.

    Curriculum : The development of important language skills and elements, such as listening, speaking, pronunciation and vocabulary, allows him to communicate accurately and effectively.
    Students practice conversation and other speaking skills using practical, real-world English. Students learn to write with accuracy and effectiveness, develop strategic listening skills and improve your use of grammar.
    Students work on his individual language skills and objectives through technology-supported learning in our modern Language Technology Centers.

    and observe university courses, listen to guest lecturers and participate in local excursions

Course information

  • Focus of Study :
    English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is set out to provide students with the fundamental academic tools they will need in order to study abroad. EAP will be the initiative to students' pursuit of higher education.

    Benefit, Goal of this course : 
    Students who enroll in EAP program will ultimately aim for conditional admissions to ELS' 650+ partner universities. Students who complete all 12 levels of Intensive EAP courses will be issued a Certificate of Completion which will prove students' English proficiency at more than 650 universities.

    Curriculum :
    Students at all levels will be offered Language Technology Center and Reading/Writing lessons. From beginner(101-103) to advanced(107-109), students will be provided with structure/speaking and vocabulary lessons while masters (110-112) will be provided with Skills Enhancement Class and Language Studies additionally.

Overlooking the Hudson River, CMSV is in a safe, residential community with fast, easy and inexpensive access to Manhattan by express bus, train or subway. New York City's many tourist and cultural attractions, restaurants, shopping and nightlife will never keep the students bored. Weekend trips are possible to other major northeastern cities including Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Boston, Niagara Falls and Canada.

  • Students from all over the world with different nationality and cultural background have chosen ELS program to study English in a new Environment. Q、学校周辺の環境について教えて下さい。



A、

リバーデール区は高級住宅地として知られる地域であり、自然豊かで落ち着いた雰囲気が漂っています。周辺にはレストランやショップもあり、ゆったりとした雰囲気の中でしっかり勉強に取り組むことが出来ます。大学のある北ブロンクスエリアは近代的な住宅街が広がり、都会的な高層アパートが立ち並びます。また、ブロンクスはヒップホップ発祥の地として知られており、大リーグの松井秀喜選手が所属するニューヨークヤンキーズの本拠地、ヤンキースタジアムやブロンクス動物園もこの地区にあります。リバーデールは、マンハッタンの中心地から北へ電車で25分ほどの距離にあるため、カントリーライフとシティライフを同時に楽しむことが出来ます。電車や地下鉄などの交通の便も非常に良く、セントラルパークやタイムズスクエア、エンパイヤステートビル、ブロードウェイミュージカルなどマンハッタンの様々な観光名所へのアクセスが良いので、ニューヨークライフを満喫できます。

안녕하세요.

제가 어학연수를 다녀온 학교에 대하여 후기를 남기려고 합니다. 
제가 어학연수를 다녀온 학교의 이름은 College of Mount St. Vincent (마운튼 세인트 빈센트 칼리지 ) 이구요, 뉴욕에 위치하고 있습니다.
학교의 프로그램은 인텐시브 영어 프로그램 (General English, 30 lessons per week ) 으로 28주동안 다녀오게 되었습니다. 


학교를 선택한 이유들을 꼽차면 첫번째로 카톨릭을 중심으로 한 대학교 라는 것, 저는 어려서 부터 카톨릭 신자로써 
한국 학교도 물론 카톨릭 관련 대학으로 다니고 있습니다. 미국에 가서도 신앙을 중심으로 한 바른 학교를 다니고 싶은 마음에 선택 하였습니다. 
또한 저의 전공이 간호학인데 이 학교는 간호, 사업, 통신 및 교육학의 전문적인 대학교 라는 점에서 저에게는 매우 매력적이었습니다.

일반 어학연수 뿐만 아니라 여러 정보도 얻고 그리고 직업 관련된 정보도 얻을 수 있을 것이라 생각했습니다. 

또한 , 지리적인 위치가 워싱턴 D.C, 필라델피아, 보스턴, 해변가, 그리고 산등으로 가깝고 뉴욕 여러 명소와도 가까워서 여행을 하기 쉽다는 점 이었습니다.


프로그램에 대하여 말하자면 인텐시브 영어 프로그램 (General English, 30 lessons per week) 은 비즈니스와 사회적인 상황에서 매일 의사 소통하는데 필요로 하는 스킬에 집중함으로써 학생들의 영어를 향상시켜주고 오전 수업은 단어 향상과 언어 구조와 함께 듣기와 말하기 등을 배웠습니다. 
마스터 수준의 경우, 오전에는 하나의 기술 강화 수업을 듣게 됩니다. 오후에는 모든 수준의 학생들이 기술 강화 수업을 듣는 것으로 알고 있습니다. 

일단 빠른 시간에 더 많은 것을 체계적으로 배울 수 있다는 점에서 인텐시브 영어 프로그램 수업이 매우 매력적이었습니다.
천천히 배워가는 프로그램도 있었지만 저는 시간도 촉박했기 때문에 이 프로그램을 선택하였습니다. 


그리고 수업 시간을 설명하자면.. 

수업시간 :

월 - 금 30레슨/ 주
8시 30분부터 9시 20분까지 -Structure/Speaking 연습
9시 반부터 10시 20분까지 -Structure/Speaking 연습
10시 30분에서 11시 20분까지 - 어휘 심화
11시 30분에서 12시 20분까지 - 언어 기술 센터
12시 20분에서 1시 반 사이 - 점심
1시 30분에서 2시 반 사이와 2시 40분에서 3시 45분까지 하나의 관심의 코스 수업 기간입니다.클래스는 신뢰와 듣기, 발음 / 회화, 사용의 어휘, 강제적 인 대화를 포함, 미디어 쓰기, 영화 및 토론, 문예 창작, 미국 속어, 통신 비디오를 통해 비즈니스를위한 미국 진드기, 영어, 대중 연설, 실제 세계 듣기 이유는 무엇입니까 , 미국 방법 


이런식으로 나뉘게 되는데 비지니스 영어를 많이 배워서 도움이 많이 되었어요.
책자도 많이 인용하여서 읽고 신문 그리고 미국의 문화 등도 많이 배울 수 있었습니다. 


저는 학교 기숙사를 사용하였구요, 일부러 3인이 쉐어하는 스타일을 선택하였습니다.
친구들도 많이 사귀고 영어도 많이 늘 수 있을 것 같아서 그랬습니다. ㅎㅎ
덕분에 많이 친구도 사귀고 돌아온 지금까지도 함께 연락 하는 친구들이 많아요. 


후기를 쓰며 한번더 어학연수를 생각해 보았는데요, 아무래도 잘 한 결정 같아서 후회가 없습니다!

美香

私は主に立地の面を重視して学校を選びました。


リバーデールは緑が多く、高級住宅街というだけあって治安も良くてとても良い町です。
しかもマンハッタンまでは電車でそんなにかからないので、週末などに簡単に遊びにいくことも出来ます。
平日は静かなところで勉強に集中して、週末はシティライフを楽しむといった生活リズムにぴったりだと思います。

学校の授業も楽しく充実していました。
先生たちはそれぞれ個性があり、ウィットに富んでいて毎日授業を受けるのが楽しかったです。
がっつり授業スタイルというよりは、クラスで楽しく授業が進んでいくスタイルでした。
そのため先生やクラスの仲間たちともとても仲よくなれたし、一緒にご飯を食べたりもしました。
スラングなども少し教わったりしました。

宿泊は私は寮で生活していましたが、
寮は留学生だけでなくネイティブの友達もできるのでとてもお勧めします。
私は寮でできたアメリカ人の友達ととても仲良くなり、週末は必ずと言ってよいほど一緒に遊んでいました。
それが私の会話力の上達にも繋がったと思います。

この留学で一生忘れられない大切な思い出を作ることが出来ました。
